g 38 carb re-build

I aquired a nosen citabria with a g38 last november2001. went to fly it yesterday, but the motor would not run. It would burn out the prime, and die. It sux enough fuel when choking, to prime . I removed the two covers containing what I beleive to be the diaphrams. No rips or tears, and the screen on top was clear.there was no debri visable. I'm guessing the rubber in the carb is too hard to do the job. I ordered a rebuild kit last night, and would like to know of any potential problems I may run into when I rebuild it. does the kit contain a new screen? If so, how is it removed and replaced? Looks very simple to rebuld. Have 30 years of motocross carburator experience, so I'm guessing I'll be fine. Any help is greatly appreciated!

g 38 carb re-build

I've rebuilt a lot of walbro, zama, and tillotson carbs; they are all similar. Note the positioning of the pump diaphragm and gasket, if they are reversed, it will open or close the fuel valve too much or too little. The kits come with the screen. Use lots of canned carb cleaner to remove the fuel residue on all the parts. Make sure the one-way check valve flaps seat on the carb body. Be clean. Have fun, Mike

Scared man.....

I dont have the carb off yet, but the parts I received look similar to a race bike carb rebuild, with a needle, or two, and a couple different screens, and a couple little metal (caps)? Has three rubber parts, and what looks like a cloth peice the size of the rubber. has what appears to be a float valve and arm, and a new pin. I guess if i take the carb apart, I will be able to identify where and how everything goes with no problem . A cirlip is also in there. hmmmm.dont want to screw this tiny carb up with my meety fingers. I'm scared! Any more thoughts? Im gonna try it tonight. Thanx much so far!!!

nothing matches

nothing inside matches the parts I received. This engine not a 38? the carb has several #s on it, 3480 on the butterfly, wa 58 on the fuelnipple side of the carb, and what appears to be 5843 on the needle side. the engine has a sticker that says serial #350678 and made in canada. What the heck is goin on experts? did the guy lie to me about what the engine is? has the carb been replaced with something other than stock? Lets hear it from all the experts out here please! thanx in advance. the motor looks like a g 38.

g 38 carb re-build

Sounds like a Walbro carb. Take it to a chain saw dealer, they should be able to get a kit to fit. Mike
