my Tower engine experience and
this post is to let all those who care know just how well Hobby services has taken care of me, and this thx goes out especially to Barb of Hobbico (hobby services).
based on reports here i decided to try the Tower .75.............what a stump puller to say the least. idled pretty good too, but alas, the fit in the crank to crankcase and the combined air leak through the front bearing caused many a flameout which led to short flights. special thanks goes out to those who tried to help me get it worked out. as a last resort i put in a request to Barb to either have the engine fixed, or better, give me a credit and allow me to purchase something else...............she came through with the credit, and i purchased the OS.91surpassII for my Big Stik...............finally got to fly the plane for more than the usual 3 minute stints i was getting with the TH.75, and the OS pulls this plane like a friggin tracter. in all fairness though, there was a guy flying a 3D ship yesterday and as i watched his touch n goes, i noticed the muffler and purple head of what was obviously a Tower.75.....the engine ran, idled and had the smooth midrange and even shut off like it's suppose to, so it tells me i was just unfortunate to get a Lemon. many thx to you Barb, we're lucky to have someone like at Hobby Services that understands our needs. -mike |

Mike,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Jim |
RE: my Tower engine experience and
Glad to hear you ended up with a much better engine(I've had the same four stroke for about 5 years now, always an efficient and reliable machine). Tower motors are like grapes, sometimes you get the sweet one, and others, well, more like the lemon you had. For what its worth, we've had two tower 46s, both have been great performers.

RE: my Tower engine experience and
I have the same problem with my Tower 75. Front bearing leak. Sent it back and they recieved it on 10/8. Recieved an email yesterday to give them a call. They said the motor would have to be replaced because of the front bearing fit. The motors are backordered. Should ship on the 31st. Hobby Service is doing a great job but the motor problem is the pits. If you get a good one they are the best but if not you have to send it back until you do. I have no reason to complain because I knew this when I spent so little for the engine. I do hate that I have to start the break in process over. It was running so good when I sent it in. It just would not shut down.

RE: my Tower engine experience and
LOL, yah, a friend had a Russian built motor(had a black head, can't remember the company name for certain) that wouldn't shut off, but if you let it idle at a whopping 200 rpm, it would eventually sputter and start running backwards! I think it was an MDS, or something...pretty funny...would run forever like that...but never flamed out in the air!
