Does anyone have any experience with these?

RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
Yes, I have had one for several years. It was originally on a BTE FlyinKing. I took it off of the FK after while because it stuck out the front so far. It has spent 95% of its life converted to Diesel.

RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
I bought one a while back and I am going to put it on a 1/4 scale Laser 200. I like K&B, USA made, good quality. I haven't run this yet but if it runs like the other K&B's I have I'm sure it will be OK.
I like the mounting style - the muffler box mounts to the firewall with exhaust out the bottom. No expensive pipes to buy. How do intend to use yours? Huck |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
I am curious about this engine. I always thought the muffler/ mount begged for a scale application. I'm sure you could gain more power with a different exhaust and I have wondered how it would respond to a pipe. I do think Mecoa has kind of priced it in the "too bad" category. I still wonder about the engine, but will probably never get to see one.

This version of the 100 is rather mild. It will not respond as well to a pipe as some other engines that are tuned a little hotter

I found one NIB on *bay. I also found the RCM engine review. Apparently they're timed a little racier than I thought. It looks like the muffler is very restricting. I'm collecting Balsa for a Big John biplane that I have plans for.
Here's the report if anyones interested. http://www.rcmmagazine.com/index.htm...mBXfXAgTA5B621 Look under reviews. |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
Adobe says the PDF file is damaged
|
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
I just opened it. Should I try loading it again?
I found it on the RCM plans website under reviews. |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
Just curious, where do you find the RCM engine reviews like this on the internet? My favorite part of RCM magazine was the engine column and reviews by C.F. Lee.
|
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
Sorry, the RCM plans web site has a reviews section.
maybe this will work. http://www.rcmmagazine.com/issues/re...mBXfXAgTA4L2G7 |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
If you can load it then maybe something is wrong with my computer but I was just looking at a couple PDF manuals on the Tower site.

Thanks for the link to the RCM review Broken Wings. It would appear tha CF Lee seems to think it would respond very well to a pipe. I hope to get to find out someday.

ORIGINAL: turbo.gst Thanks for the link to the RCM review Broken Wings. It would appear tha CF Lee seems to think it would respond very well to a pipe. I hope to get to find out someday. turbo I noticed that the "outboard" and "fan" engines use different part numbers for the cylinders. It might be interesting. For some reason I've always been attracted to somewhat "odd" model engines. It's a hobby right...;) |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
I have one, but havent run it yet. I will try several carb/ muffler setups. I just need to find the time.......

BW, if my Sweety doesn't keep me too busy and my Harley doesn't sit up and beg I may run mine both as a glow and as a Diesel just for some engine runnin fun. Mine has been boxed up and Corrosion Xed for a couple of years. I have some 5% fuel with 16% lube that I added 3 oz of castor to.

RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
I'd be interested in the data.

John, my neighbor has a crew of guys repairing his house roof so I was hesitant to run the engine more than about 5 minutes so I didn't do the Diesel run. The glow run was done with the following, my run is 200 rpm sronger than Mr. Lee's possibly due to mine having many hours on it. This a very smooth engine and will be easy on the airframe.
Prop APC 14x6, rpm===10,400, 10,500 was attainable but it wandered up and down a little 10,400 was rock steady. Plug Fox idlebar Fuel WildCat 5% with 16% 80/20 blend and 3 oz of castor added. |

I think I got a good deal, $127.50 NIB less shipping. |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
It's a good looking motor for sure and those numbers are very nice - I bet it would pull a 14x8 well enough - maybe a 13x9 or so...
There is a fellow over on the warbirds forum who is planning to put one in his new TF 1/7 scale Mustang ARF. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7530472 |

Hobbsy, UPS just brought mine to the door, It's alot smaller than I had imagined and the carburetor is a little different than yours. It looks like they did away with the ecentric adjusting screw and added a small wire "clicker" that rides in the notches of the low speed mixture adjustment.
The crank is beefy at 3/8-24... I like it. :D Now I'm wondering if I can rotate the cylinder on the .65 Sportster and machine a muffler/mount for it as well. I found it on *bay, it looks a little better now.... |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
John, I think my .61 Twist has that same or very similar carb., I have a .65 that I don't consider too valuable if you need some parts for that one. The 1.00 looks good, let us know how it runs.

Sport Pilot
The Lanier Laser 200 1/4 scale is not a big plane, 72"ws and 8lbs. Recommended engine is .60 to 1.08 2 cycle. I thought this would be enough power. I am not an accomplished aerobatic pilot, my skills are limited at this time. Have you seen Laser 200's? what sort of power were they using? Thanks Huck |
RE: K&B 1.00 square back muffler
Then I guess a Lazer 200 is a bit smaller than the usual Extra or CAP.
