Lightest .46 engine?

Am considering building a Morris Hobbies Arrow II Seaplane. Will need a very light .46 or so engine with good power.

Any suggestions?

About 12 years ago, I found a .40 size Austrian engine that weighed same as a .25; can't recall the manuf. Black in color.

Webra is likely the brand that you're thinking of. HP and HB engines were German/Austrian made before MECOA bought the rights to the names here in North America, I think.

Webra engines are sold by Paul's Model Supply at http://www.paulsmodelsupply.com While there isn't currently a U.S. distributor for Webra, Paul is in North Dakota and works with the Canadian Distributor so engines and parts are readily available.

A look through the engine showroom at http://www.mecoa.com should give you plenty of information on currently available HP and HB engine models as well as MECOA and K&B offerings in the .40 to .46 size 2-stroke range.

One last suggestion to consider might be the new Thunder Tiger F-75s 4-stroke engine. At just over 16 ounces, it's actually an ounce or two lighter than most ball-bearing .46 2-strokes. At $169.99, it's not much more expensive than a premium .46 2-stroke, either.

Good luck and good shopping!

If it was black, it was probably an HP Gold Cup .40:

The site bigedmustafa listed has some photos. It lists the .40 as weighing 9.4ozs w/o muffler. That is pretty light.

The Fox .46 would the lightest .46 and most likely have the most power. The Fox .50 is the lightest .50 but the .46 having a slightly thicker brass/chrome cylinder is just slightly heavier than the .50. The Webra .50 may be another very good choice weighing just 1/2 oz more than the Fox .50

An ENYA .50 ring is less than 15.5 oz

Yes! I second the Enya 50SS. The Enya 50CX is slightly heavier and slightly more powerful. Both are really nice engines.

Yeah, it was the HP. Very nice light engine; not enough power for my project.

Will check out the Webra Speed .50 & the Enya .50 SS.

Shack,

The [link=http://www.jettengineering.com/engines/bse30.html]Jett .40L[/link] is just 14.0 ounces including its tuned muffler.

It will out-rev nearly all other .46 engines out there, but will also cost you a big bundle...

I second the Enya 50SS, absoutly perfect engine in every way. Light, Powerful and unbelievably reliable. It does however take a couple good gallons of fuel run through it to get the ring seated and for the power to really kick in.
