Cleaning muffler 4c engine
 

Hi

i did try to find the answer on a search here because i'm sure i'm not the first one asking this. but i could find anything.

anyhow for my question, i got two engines OS70 and Saito56 and both needs some muffler cleaning.

is there some stuff that will make it easier to clean ?

My Saito mufflers always get such a mess! I use Dawn Power Dissolver and it eats up castor as long as it's not baked on. The black baked on stuff is nearly impossible to get off, but I have yet to try the crock pot method. I'll post some pictures later and I may have a before and after for you to check out.

the only reason i'm cleaning them is they are going to Ebay. other wise i care less about how the muffler looks like :)

Some potentional buyers actually prefer the mufflers to be covered in baked on goo, then they know castor oil have been used in the fuel and thus the engine is likely to be in good shape. But I guess most people prefer a engine they want to buy to be looking like new on the outside. It shouldn`t take too long to just polish the mufflers clean and shiny. Use a power tool (drill, dremell etc) with polish bits and some compound. the crock pot method is effective but will take hours and is potentially harmful (fumes) and dangerous for the surroundings

yeah i think the avarage buying want to see it shinny .

I put mine in the oven and turned the self cleaning on. After the oven shut down I opened the oven door and my muffler looked like if it was new.
