Where can I purchase this engine? Is it available in the US. If not then where and how do I pruchase from over seas? Seems like the price is better than the RCS 1.40 and the weight is a little lighter.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Now what's the closets I can get to a glow style muffler. I'm not looking for a pipe. I plan on mounting this in a MK 3d Freedom vertically. I would like to have a just a plane glow style muffler. Maybe later I'll use a pipe, but right now this engine will be enough for me in the power department.

I have four of these engines. Two I purchased from Paul at JustEngines in the UK - < www.justengines.unseen.org >, two I picked up here on RCU. You can also buy them from the US MVVS importer - < www.MorrisHobbies.com >

I'm not sure about the pricing being better than the RCS right now due to the euro being valued higher than the US dollar. The MVVS also weighs a little more than the RCS, but makes more power (once you mod or replace the stock POS muffler)

I just happened to have weighed them this morning!

RCS 1.40:

• engine : 852g
• stock ignition : 117g
• RCS pitts muffler (inverted style) : 195g

MVVS 1.60:

• engine : 935g
• stock ignition (old style) : 110g
• stock muffler (POS) : 110g
• Bisson pitts muffler (inverted style) : 159g
• Bisson pitts muffler (side-mounted) : 158g

So. The RCS with an inverted pitts muffler weighs 41.05 oz; the MVVS with a similar muffler weighs 42.4 oz.

I'm planning on using one of these engines in my 3D Freedom kit. (assuming I don't sell it off and replace it with a WM Fun-3D.) I haven't found a easily-available standard glow-style muffler that will fit this engine. You might want to contact the folks at Bisson - perhaps they can adapt one of the 'sport' muffler they offer for some of the big glow engines.

You could also cut off the cheeks on the front of the fuselage and find a cowl that fits it. You could then use whatever muffler style you prefer.

I've been thinking about a few things. What does a ZDZ 40 weigh? I highly dought I'd stick a 40cc engine on that plan, but it's fun to think about! How is the ignition on the MVVS VS the RCS? I think I'm just going to go with an inverted pitts muffler and use some kind of cowl. I really like Wonderufwade's toilet bowl scrubber cowl idea and might put that to use. As far as the engines go, do you think I'd have trouble putting an 8 ounce tank on the CG and also using a 2 ounce header tank? I like the idea of a header tank because I can completely drain the main tank without getting air to the engine.

I do have a pair of ZDZ 40s, and also weighed them this morning.
(Right now I'm assembling a GP Giles. I have an OS 1.60 on hand for it, but was contemplating installing one of my (spare) 40cc gassers. After crunching the numbers I've decided to stick with the glow engine, as the Giles doesn't like to carry a lot of extra weight.


Anyway. Here's the info.
ZDZ 40 RV:

• engine : 1304g
• six-bolt prop adapter : 42g
• ignition (Falkon) : 132g
• J&A pitts muffler (inverted) : 214g
• Diablotin muffler & fles header : 262g

Engine, ignition & pitts muffler == 59.68 oz. That's a lot of weight for this size o' plane.

I was thinking that I'd be able to easily fit the MVVS & Bisson inverted pitts muffler, but I don't remember ever actually measuring this combo against the plans. Gotta check that.

I also think that a nice fiberglass cowl would be a cool way to go. Perhaps something off of a Cap - that way you'c be able to mount the engine sideways and still have it look good :)

RCS vs. MVVS. Both engines come with electronic auto-advance type ignition systems. I've used 700 mAh nicad packs on both engines, with good results. Hand-starting is easy in both cases.

One note. The RCS uses odd metric spark plugs and are not cheap to replace; the MVVS uses a standard weedie-type plug which is easily available.

Header & main tanks. The carbs on these gas engines are pumped - just put the fuel tank on the CG; he engine will handle the rest. Takes a little longer to prime, but that's all.

Well, I think I've made up my mind to use a MVVS with a Pitts style muffler and a cowl of some sort. All that's left is to find an engine. I'm hoping for a used one to save on cost, and may have found on, but I will go new if I have to. I'm hoping to get my kit today so I can start building it and hopeful have it ready to accept an engine within 2 weeks. If it builds like my Sig SE than I should be able to accomplish that goal.

You might want to go with a new one. The current version being sold has an updated ignition system, a graphite-coated piston for less friction, a larger carb with a choke and different timing - from the reports thus far it performs quie a bit better than the older versions.

I'm looking here right now and there are three different versions. What's the difference between the 1.60 GFS for $329.99, the 1.60 GFS-W for $329.95, and the 1.60 IFS-W for $389.95?

The difference between the GFS and the IFS is that the GFS is the glow version and the IFS is the Gas version. The GFS-W is a glow engine with a Walboro Carb although all three in the pictures you are looking at are the gas versions. Just Engines out of the UK has these for quite a bit less than Morris, the gas version(IFS) for just under $300(once the conversions are done) and the glow version for about $180, they also have a good reputation for service and are always willing to answer questions.

Bisson actually makes a Sport muffler specifically for the MVVS 1.6. It's Part Number 05518. I think it may actually be for the MVVS 1.6 glow engine since there's a pressure nipple on it. It weighs a hell of a lot lighter than the MVVS tuned pipe, so I may give it a go.

Just a note to say that I can recommend Just Engines, I go my 160 MVVS glow from them and they have been mega helpful.

By the way the glow version weighs 800g, with a pits muffler adding 150g, thats 950g ready to fly, worth considering if weight is an issue, and the fuel bill isn't, particularly if you fancy the 3.9hp that goes with he glow version.
