Engine Expert's - Need Opinion
What are brand new in original boxes Super Tigre G61ABC Blue Head's worth ? Not a scratch on them, turn over fine. I realize that something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it, except I have seen these same engines go for some healthy prices on E-Bay.

As with all "collectables" the price is probably over inflated. |

The blue head still is a standard by it's own for power and tractability. It would be a shame to run it.

The eventual eBay price is not even a close indicator of what something is worth. It is nearly always what some stupid kid (with an open account open at his father's/mother's), was willing to over-bid for, while being clearly out of his mind... One unit of nearly anything, sold on an auction site, with multiple bidders, will always fetch much, much more than it is worth. No 'fair price', unless there is only one interested buyer... If this is sold in the classified section, where people bargain to an agreed price, that would be fair enough. I have always said eBay is a seller's paradise and a buyers purgatory... Where he is cleansed of all his money... |

Dar, if one is foolish and gets caught up in bidding wars, I agree. However, if one is patient and watches for items to "fall through the cracks" there are bargains to be had.
I got a TST, PDP ST BH .60 in like new condition for around $23 a while back. Recently I got this never run Veco .19 w/muffler for $22.50. I've posted pics of the Webra Speed RE BH I got for $37. You just have to watch and be patient. BTW, I won the HB .25 in the background of the photo for $10.50. It is like new; the bearings still had the grease packing. David |

I can agree on that, Dave...
However, if one is looking for a Saito, or a YS, in nearly any condition; he's unlikely to end up paying less than the new, street-price of that engine... What person in his right mind, would pay the same, or even more, for a used engine, in a condition which is questionable and with no warranty whatsoever; than for a new engine of the same make and model?... This happens often in the bidding frenzy and there are also sellers that mis-represent their merchandise (for example that Cox engine described as a 'classic, out of production, rare unit', while it was still in production and sells for half of what that used engine eventually fetched...), 'engineering' the bidders to be willing to pay... |

Very true, Dar. The other day there was a bidding war over an FP .20. It sold for around $125! For a lowly FP .20! I often see Super Tigre .40's sell for more than $50 when most hobby shops sell them for $49.99 new w/warranties. Cox stuff has gotten insane, especially the old grey props.
I get a lot of pleasure and reward out of cleaning up old engines and replacing the bearings, rings, gaskets, etc. I enjoy it as much as building. Once in a while I'll end up spending enough on new parts to almost pay for a NIB example. That's rare, but since half the fun is fixing them up, it's like another facet of the hobby for me. I mean, scratch building from plans can often cost more than a shiny new ARF, but you get what you pay for, right?:D David |

Prices can go from one extreme to the other on the BAY. I just scored a new OS #704 muffler for a .60FGR, for only $4 shipped priority mail. Shipping alone was about $5. I have been trying to get one of these for almost a year and always get sniped or just bid up past $40+ for a used example. These are getting scarce for a reasonable price.
I am still at a loss as to how this muffler went for only $4 shipped. I guess it was poorly listed, with poor description, and I was there to snap it up:D. |

Man, how did I miss that. I was lucky to get one at a swap meet for $5 last year. But, the #704 is one of those items I scour for.

I caught this Irvine .20 a few weeks ago in the RCU MarketPlace for $42.00 and considered myself fortunate. It now wears a Davis Diesel head and runs great.

Cox Conquest parts seem to go at a pretty penny also. Sold a little mini muffler on there and it fetched over $60. I only listed it after seeing another go for $100. Its amazing to me..

I'm confused by this thread. Crankpin asked about a Supertigre .61 bluehead. I see a lot of replies for the Supertigre .60 bluehead.
The .60 was a loop-scavenged beauty with side exhaust. The .61 was a rear exhaust Schneurle-ported engine. The .60 with PDP (Perry Directional Porting) was a real powerhouse. |

Dan - I am not up to the knowledge of these ST's. I will have them in my hand by Wed. or Thurs. 8/6 or 8/7.
They are the G60ABC Bluehead's, 8 bolt pattern on the heads. I have more tech info coming today. Brand new, untouched. Crankpin |

Crankpin, That G60 Bluehead was a real animal. It was king of pattern for a while. I'd treasure those two you're getting.
The most famous early pattern 60's were the Veco .61, Enya .60, Merco .61 "Blackhead", Webra "Blackhead' .61, OS .60 "Goldhead and Blackhead" and the Supertigre .60 "Bluehead" I had a bluehead ST .60 with PDP and let it go. Even more smoothness can be obtained with a Perry pressure/regulator backplate and matching carb. The only .60 I still have is a Webra Blackhead but would love to have a bluehead Supertigre one of these days. |
