Dynamix carb? 25 years ago when I had mine, I couldn't get the blasted thing sorted out.

Matt,

The Dynamix™ carburettor needs a relatively high fuel pressure to function properly.

A fuel pump is almost an imperative requirement, since exhaust-pressure is relatively low.
Getting it high enough would require so much back-pressure, the engine's performance would be compromised.

The manual says this, but most people follow this rule; ''Only after all else failed, RTFM''...

That's 'Read The Manual' for you...

When I got my Webra Speed 10cc (Dykes ring) in 81-82 from Tower Hobbies, all that came with the engine in the box were instructions written in German. I had German in high school, but I'll be darned if I could figure out that the Dynamix carb was supposed to be used with a pump. I ended up replacing the Dynamix carb with an HB carb that Tower was selling for $10.85 at the time. Even back then, that price was very low. It took me a day or two with a file to get the carb shank of the HB carb to fit the Webra, but it happened eventually. What a sweet running engine with the HB carb!

Hello Webra people.

Can I be filled in with what is available for an exhaust system past or present for the #1020 Webra 10ccm?

So far I have found a Semco flow-thru muffler I am going to try.

Mac's headers carries a header for this but isn't this a looped engine and wont work with a pipe?

I have the marine version of this motor and need to know my options with exhausts before I build cutouts.

Thanks!

RE: Why not a Webra engines thread?

I'm not 100% positive on this, but I think there was a closed front expansion chamber muffler (looks like a typical muffler ) available from Webra for the later production Black Head (mid 70's )
I don't have one, but I am envisioning one similar to the one available for the .40, only larger...seems to me I saw a pic somewhere here on RCU...? (might have been on that "other" group though ;) ) Might have been years ago in a magazine?

You can put a tuned pipe on just about any 2 stroke...the port and crank timing will be the major governing factors. A pipe would help it put out more over-all power, but it won't help as much as it would on a "pipe timed" engine.
I would think you'd be ok to pipe it for torque (longer header/milder pipe combination ) rather than all out top end.
I could be "all-wet" here ( ) so maybe some of the guys with marine engine experience will chime in if they happen across this thread?

I own four Webra Speed 61`s and one 40 speed with a matching baffled tuned pipe and header.

Three 61`s are a ringed version, while 1 is a ABC version. The 40 has a floating type of Dykes L ring.

I have been using Webra`s Shnuerle engines since 1979 and compare all two stroke engines that have blown in over the years to them.

They are fantastic engines, and IMHO, have seen nothing top them for all around sport flying yet. They rank right up there with the old HP`s, Rossi`s, OPS`s, Pico`s. I have owned them all at one time or another.

Two 61`s have the dynamix carb, the other two the TN.

The dynamix carb is just awsome and easy to set up. A engineering masterpiece.

Too bad Webra is missing the 4 stroke market. I love my OS`s, but would sell them in a heart beat if Webra sold a conventional 4 stroker. That belt drive Idea was a dead end.

The sound of a Webra burbling in on final after a hammer down flight will echo in my mind into eternity.

Chad.

Chad,

The guy who wrote that is I and I take what you just wrote personally!... Arrrggg! ;)

The entity that originally wrote you must use a highly pressurized fuel system, recommending a pump for the Dynamix carburettor to function properly; and specifically saying it cannot function with suction-feed (unlike the TN/TN2), is no other than.... Webra!

You better take it up with them, because from over 6,000 miles away, I am way too far to punch you in the nose....[sm=punching.gif]

Dar, you need to fix the Webra link in your post as it sends you to the RC Bearings website....:D

BW,

That's not a proper 'Webra link', entered into my post as such...

It is a feature of RC Universe, in which certain words are handles to web sites...

Paul probably purchased this word, so he can sell bearings to Webra engine owners.

I didn't know that you could purchase words on RCU...

BW, in your own post it is also automatically linked.

Seems that someone has bought a few engine names, like Webra and OS but as soon as there is another letter in there the link is not made like in e.g. Webras ....

Speed events using tuned pipe exhaust systems at ultra high rpm existed long before model airplane engines began using schneurle porting. The idea that old baffle piston engines should be relegated to swinging large lumber is incorrect/fallacy. Baffle piston engines have turned well over 20k rpm long before the 70's.

Now, this is not to say that a few baffle piston engines were not designed to be torquers, but I don't remember one specifically.

Kenny, the Speed 1.20 has two unsual characteristics for a 1.20, it turns 16x8 props as well or better than most 1.50s and gets better fuel economy than most 1.20s. I ran mine with a Bisson Sport muffler which has very cool sound.

Thanks guy's I caint wait to put it on a plane, it also has a pitts pipe for it. I have heard nothing but good thing's about this engine. I am glad I traded for it. It is brand new never run and it's probably been a long time since it was manufactured. Did they stop making them?

RE: Why not a Webra engines thread?

Kenny, do you knowe if yours is a Dykes ringed engine or does it have conventional ring. If a Dykes ring the ring will be at the very top of the piston. in fact it will almost look like it has nor ring. If conventional it be a small 1/8th" down from the top. Thanks, Dave

I think they are still making the 1.20?
I had one on a Funtana S90 a few years back...
Used an APC 17x6 and 10% Omega fuel w/ an O.S. #8 plug and a Bisson Pitts style muffler...great combination.

There are at least 2 variations...a standard 1.20 and a pumped version...(has a pump built into the backplate )

Hey Propster, here is the latest line up which now includes two 1.45s and two 1.50s.

I havent had the engine apart since its new, but it seems to be the speed 120 with the silver head. I looked up the 120's on the web and they had 3 types and the other 2 had a blue head.

RE: Why not a Webra engines thread?

Thanks Hobbsy,

Mine is the std. silver head version...

I see they are still making a higher perf. version (the X ) and the XP with the pump.[8D] (or "pup" as they call it :D )

Yep thats what I saw as well. Is the silver head one a good engine?

Yes, definitely!

IMO you can't go wrong with a Webra...got 4) .50 GT's, 3) Speed .61's and the 1.20 and they all run great.

They are a bit more expensive, but worth it IMO.
