stripped glow plug threads

I got a OS 32 SX-H helicopter engine with stripped glow plug threads. I know there are a couple of places in the magazine ads that will repair them. Is there a kit available that will allow me to do it myself? Does anyone know the thread size? I thought it might be possible to use a heli-coil if I knew what size to get. A new head is about $40.00 so I'd like to give it a try before I buy a new one. Thanks guys, Matt.

You should be ok with a heli-coil kit.

Just take a Glo-plug along to the hardware store and tell them what you want to do. They will be able to give you the right size.

The threads are 1/4 32. You can get metal threaded incerts or a helicoil.

Glow plugs are 1/4"-32. Your not going to find a Helicoil kit for them at the hardware.

I must ad here that 1/4"-32 is a unusual thread dimension. 1/4"-20 is the standard course thread and 1/4"-28 is the standard fine thread. The 1/4"-32 would be a special size in a tap or in a Helicoil. I do have one, I cannot remember where I got it but it was at a hobby shop or from Tower?

Send the head to C.F.Lee. His address is in the back of RCM. I don't have one in front of me right now. Perhaps someone else can chime in here and give us Clarence's address? He caharges about $8.

I would fill the plug hole with aluminum welding rod, then drill and tap it.

Well, try as I might, I haven't been able to find the 1/4"x32 heli-coil. I'm sure they make one. My best bet is to just send it to Clarence. A lot less hassle. Thanks for everyone's help. Matt
