Engine Mount
Hi,
I'm looking for some help on how to mount an engine to a engine mount. I've had to buy another mount because the one supplied in the kit was not big enough. The engine mount that I have bought has one flat side, and the other side comes up at an angle, this means that bolting it too it will be hard. What could I use, I was thinking about using self tapping screws but am worried that this might not be safe. What does anyone suggest. Thank you |

USE THE FLAT SIDE. It should be obvious, but maybe it's not.
A self tapping screw is fine, but I prefer to drill and tap the mount to accept hardened socket-head bolts. The plastic mounts take threads very well and the screws remain tight without the need for additional hardware. |

Thanks for the advice on the self tapping screws.
Don't think I was clear, the problem is that all my other engine mounts are flat on both sides, so that you can mount the engine on one side and bolt it to the other. But because this mount has only one flat side I didn't think that bolts would have anything to grip, therefore would fall off quickly. I was concerned over self tapping screws, and wanted to make sure that they are safe to mount an engine with. Thank you again for the help with the self tapping screws. |

well...again.
Self tapping screws should work just fine, but I prefer to drill the mounting holes...tap them with an appropriate tap and then use hardened steel socket head screws. The end result is a neat, clean, super secure mounting that STAYs secure without extra hardware. |
