YS 63, Prop?
I have a brand new YS 63FZ installed in a Hanger 9 Aresti. What is the best prop to use for break-in? Also what is the best prop to use after break-in for normal sport flying?
Thanks, Tony Gagliardi Jr. |
YS 63, Prop?
I broke mine in on a 12X6 Master and then went to a 13X6 prop. I have mine in a Hobbico Spectrum. I have read that a 14x4W works better for a 3d plane.
Dru. P.S. The engine really came on when I started to run a YS 20/20 fuel. |
YS 63, Prop?
My preferences:
Breakin' & pattern flying: 12x6 or 12x8. 3D fun: 13x4W(tried the 14x4 but did not like it). Best of both worlds: 13x6 |
YS 63, Prop?
Tony, I have one on a SIG Somethin' Extra. I tried a dozen different props, and ended up staying with the first one; an APC 13x6.
Be aware that the amount of nitro you're running plays a BIG part in how this engine responds to different propellors. Mine ran like crap with a 14x4W on 15%. My buddy runs a home-brew 20/20 mix and his screams with that same prop on his DP Ultimate. He also had an Aresti; that's a fast little plane. The 13" prop might pose ground clearance problems. Just remember that the higher the prop pitch (if you have to go to a shorter, higher pitch prop for ground clearance) the faster the airspeed. I seem to recall that an 11" prop was the longest that would comfortably clear on the kit gear- he had a TT .46 on his. That would call for an 11x8 or higher; and you'll have a rocket on your hands...<G> The good thing is that this engine is perfectly happy at higher (11,000+) rpm, so you can run the shorter props with no worries about hurting the engine. YS 63, Prop?
I'm running a Master Airscrew 12x8 scimitar and YS20/20 fuel on mine. It pulls the mustang around like a demon! For sport I would use a 13x6, 3d 14x4 or for extreme speed drop down to 11x10. All around performance stick with the 12x8.

YS 63, Prop?
I've got these engines on my Zen 50 and DP Ultimate. I run a 12x7 on the Zen as prefers to fly fast, while the Ultimate hums happily along with a 13x6.
Both engines were broken in per the instructions (8 tanks at a rich setting, then lean slightly) with 13x6 props. |
Thanks
Thanks for all the help guys. I think I will see if the 13X6 is not to big for the Aresti. That seems to be the best all around prop.
Thanks again! Tony |
