Which if any are of better quality in the 52-70 size four stroke size range?

Only one I've had is a .52, about 8 years now, no problems, on 10% Cool Power, one Thunderbolt glow plug. As it broke in, the low idle screw had to be turned in, now great idle & response with a 12X6 APC. Mine's in a WM Ultimate 30 biplane, inverted, handles it very well.

Thanks w8ye , I was lead to believe that Sanye made motors of varying quality, to suit the respective market and price bracket they where targeted at.

The Sanye engine quality seems to vary a little in spite of them going to CNC machining etc. So you might see an example in one brand be a better engine than an example from the other brand.

The important thing is to buy your engine from someone who will stand behind the engine and support you if there is ever any problem.

I would probably lean towards a Thunder Tiger based on my experiences with Magnum and TT engines. My XL52RFS is not an engine I would trust, also my friends XL30RFS is similarly unreliable despite his going back to the factory service center once already for leaky valves. Mine also suffers the same leaky valve trait, makes them idle horribly.

I have a T-34 with a 52 Magnum 4-stroke and it is a great little engine. Unbelievably quick starting, no fuss, no bother. Swings a 12-6 three blade prop and hauls the T-34 around very smartly. I have a bunch of Magnum two-strokes in the .61 and .46 range. The first .61 is now about 8 years old and is installed on a 76-inch high wing trainer that also hauls up a foam glider "space shuttle" style. That airplane has a bunch of air time. None of those engines have ever given a hint of a problem. I have a Magnum .91 four stroke on order at the moment that will be fitted on a Cub. My "warm up" airplane is a 40 size Big Stik powered by a .46 Magnum two stroke that also has seen service in a number of airframes over the years.

I like the Magnum 70.

It seems that the Evolution side of Sanye operates independently of Magnum and ASP when it comes to QC and marketing.

I have a bunch of Sanye engines. The only trouble that I have had with them is with the high idle speed of the .30 four-strokes. Everything else, from .52 two and four-stroke engines, on up have been as reliable as anvils.
