OS FX.46 performance

I just flew a GP Easy Sport .40 for the first time today, and had an OS .46FX up front. brandnew, a slightly on the rich side.

I had the feeling the plane could use some more power now and then. I also felt the FX.46 hasn't full potential.

Now, how many tanks must I go through the get a performance increase, and can set it leaner.

I have 2 tanks on it now. I tried to set a leaner in the end, but then this would happen, when I moved from idle to full throttle:

The engines speeds up, although not immediately (short delay?) than goes to full rpm and then suddenly starts to slow again, when throttle full open. So a set it back richer, the "slow" response was still there but the rpm drop wasn't.

What to do next ?

What prop size, wood or plastic?

Just keep running it rich like you are. Once it is broken in it will "hold" the RPM at full throttle with a leaner mixture. Don't rush it, and it will reward you with a good running, powerful engine.

Idle mix may be a little lean causing the hesitation on acceleration.

yup

Go in a little on the low speed needle- that should cure the "lag" in transition...

Usually takes at least 1 gallon to get broken in as I recall-

It had an APC 11x6 prop installed FYI.

Nothing wrong with it I guess?

Although I do consider switching to a 12x5 or 12X4 for better vertical performance ?

So, about the idle setting, I guess it's that little screw on top of the carb ? Do I turn in in or out ?

Thanks!

That little screw on top is the throttle stop screw... leave it as it is.

the low speed needle is in the throttle arm ......... screw in to lean the idle mixture . and out to richen the idle mixture.

i would put a 11*5 for better thrust .

( a 12*5 will be too much prop and lower the revs )
