OS 46FX midrange problem

When I idle the engine for a few seconds and throttle up , it works fine.
When I do the pinch test it revs up to a higher rpm.
When I leave it in mid throttle for a few then I throttle up it
dies!!!!
Seems just like my low end is too lean but if I richen it it does the same thing.
A guy at the field sais it could be some humidity in the fuel.
When I changed the fuel it was a little bit better but it kind of sputtered before it throttled up.
I used 15% nitro the first time.
I changed to 10 % and it ran a little better but it sputtered like i said.
Anyone!!!

Hi Destructor.
A FX engine is the nature which becomes rich in the middle range.
A middle range can't be adjusted with an idlel needle.
If you use a high stage only a little, you should squeeze a main needle bravely to a limit.

OS 46FX midrange problem

I have 1960's childhood buddy who owns a couple Bagel Shops in Derry. Since your engine is on a trainer, it makes this easier. You just not dialed in right. Sputtering is to rich on the low end. One simple way to find out is if you can get it to idle, remove the fuel line from the carb nipple while the engine is running. if the rpm increases before the engine quits, your low end is to rich. Close the needle and 1/8 turn. If the engine rpm just goes down and quits your to lean, therefore you open it a bit. Now i go for a ever so slight increase. You then should be able to run and idle and throttle up fast with no sputtering. Also on that "Pinch test" I know most go for a slight increas on the pinch but that is pushing a lean run. Again I go for no change in rpm. Of course i start with the increas and go downfrom their. Later, CH

Are you running an OS3 or OS8 plug? If not get one immediately.

Also, a rich mid-range is the result of a rich low end needle setting. Try leaning the low end a little at a time until it is running right. The OS .46 engine is the epitome of userfriendly and a poorly running one can only be the result of tuning, not design.

I am running an os 8 plug.
I went to get myself new fuel.
I've been storing it in the basement on the cement which I will do no more.

Yep, I had a 1/4 gallon of fuel that had been sitting in a jug on my flightbox and my engine kept quitting on me for no apparent reason but at full throttle, 1/2 throttle and idle. It was the fuel and not a suspected carb leak.

I hit some power lines and down it went to the TAR.
Looked like a blooming flower!!!
