how to make an engine sound more like a real plane?
ex: the roar of a spitfire? a regular 2 cycle's pitch is too high, and 4 cycle sounds even less like the real thing (and gas engine sounds like a lawn-mower...) so the question is how to make a 2cycle .90 engine roar like the Spit? :D can one buy/make a muffler for the desired sound? any info will be appreciated, Vasek |

Ewwwwwwwwww.......that's gonna be tough to replicate the sound of a 12cylinder Merlin (?) with a single cylinder r/c engine.
Maybe a big two cylinder gas job with open exhaust stacks would get close. Then..you're gonna get kicked out of the club for busting the noise rules. You're trying to replicate the sound of a violin by using a tuba. It isn't going to be authentic....period. Wish I had a better answer, but... Good Luck! 'race |

Skip the warbirds, and buy a jet... :D:D
Race is right... no muffler you throw at it is going to make this: |

"Honey...I'm going into the yard to run the Merlin.!!!..." Yeah right.... Neat pic! |

How about a rotating disk or vane blown by exhaust pressure to break up the single pulse into multiple mini-pulses. Could try it behind the exhaust stack to see and then maybe put it inside a muffler.

Fit an electric motor to the plane (then it makes no noise) and play a recording of a Merlin at full chat.
I have a couple of Merlin wave files at home, I'll see if I can find them and load them up. |

hey guys, i know no 2c will sound like a Merlin (duh!) (nice pic Rudeboy)
the KEY word is "more" i.e. sound more like.... a little deeper & rounder sound nobody has made a "singing" muffler yet? :D :D |
Sound of a Merlin
Try this link to Horizon Hobbies, has a couple of .wav files of sampled Merlins.
Pure joy  http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/articles/1136.asp?pg=2 I have them downloaded, and play them every now and then. Oooh, just played again. Gone all guey. Sorry. :) :) :) No, no way you can get a model to sound like that. |
