What about GMS 76?
 

I need an engine in the 75 range for my Goldberg Chipmunk (45-60), I was thinking Tower Hobbies 75 but its out of stock until late march and who knows if it wont be delayed even more like it usually happen to be...
OS 75 is out of my budget and I want something simple because of dead stick reliability calculation, in addition the chipmunk comes with a cowl so its not gonna be easy to adjust.

Any experience with the GMS 76, should I wait for the tower 75, is there a difference between them?
How does the pitts muffler affect the motor performance?

90 2 stroke engine seems to be too big for 7 lb airplane, besides I dont like supertigers they seem to need special adjustments with the high and low end valves.

the gms .76 makes the same power as the st .90 with a lot less weight. from what i have heard the gms makes the same power as the th .75 or a little less but either way it should be plenty of power for that plane.

GMS engines, like many others, run great if the carb you get isn't leaky or has a mis-drilled spraybar. My first and I hope only experience with a GMS engine demonstrated both issues, and that was not unique according to field reports I've found scattered throughout the forums. So if you are thinking dead-nuts reliabilty check it out thoroughly on the bench first. This was with a .32, and although I've seen/heard the same about other sizes you may want to check that out first.

I've owned a lot of them and haven't really done anything extraordinary to get them to run right....not anything I haven't done with any other brand of engine.

Personally, Super Tigre is my favorite two stroke. A .90 is a little on the large side, but Super Tigre also makes a .75 and it would be cheaper than an OS. Close to $100 cheaper.

Go and get it..
seal the muffler parts with RTV silicone, and push the carby hard on it's seats!

You won't regret it as we don't regret the tower 75.

The Tower 75, GMS, 76, Super Tiger G75, and Su[per Tiger G90 are all made in the same factory by the same company.

I would prefer the Tower .75 over the GMS, but would settle for the GMS before the ST.:D:D I do not like ST carbs compared to the OS Clone carbs.;)

I just read about the affect of the pitts mufflers on the performance of the engines and it looks like I'll dig out some 91 I have to use in that airplane before I purchase a new unknown engine.

That's interesting! Where's the factory? Do you know of any other brand names which are made by the same people? I think MECOA has bought out a few companies and their names..

The factory is in the interior of China somewhere. GMS is the original name I don't know of anything else they make.

I have had nothing but good luck with GMS engines seal under the carb and back plate with a good engine silicone with a hot plug and you will love the engine! I have 3 47's 3 61's 1 76 and 1 120 I think that speaks for itselve!

GMS engines are great. They are strong runners and reliable. I have a couple of .47s and a .61. The 61 really hauls for its size, and the .76 is a bored and stroked .61, so it will give heaps of power. Theres a couple of guys at the club with GMS .76s and they swear by them. They fly circles around similar sized OS engines. I think this is partly due to the cost - they aren't afraid to push them to their limits like they would be with an engine that cost nearly twice as much. And the big GMS muffler (same as the Tower muffler) really gives it a boost.

Don't know, but the current crop of ringed GMS engines have rectangular rings with overlapped ends. A Dykes ring seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a cheap Chinese engine. But I guess it may have helped if the bores weren't as good as they could be.

I had a GMS 61 for a while. Never was around a 76. But have messed with Tower 75's a good bit. The 75 is ABC but is a good engine

Just for clarification, the Super Tigre 90 is the same size as the Super Tigre .75. They are only 2 oz more than the Tower .75. I wouldn't hesitate to put the Super Tigre .90 in the place of a Tower .75. It is $30 more than the Tower .75 however.

Does anyone know if GMS has been discontinued? Tower can not tell you anything about them, All parts seem to have been sold out and not replaced! Everywhere I have looked can not find parts! I am trying to find out like what carbs fit the other GMS engines like the 47? Just have been looking for aswers on the GMS and the online shops I have called do not seem to have any!

GMS does that every couple years. They will dissappear off the face of the earth for a couple years then all of a sudden they are back.
