Thunder Tiger 130, 4cycle
 

I just bought the Thunder Tiger 130, 4 cycle engine for a Hanger 9 P-51D Bluenose Mustang ARF. Anyone have comments on its performance yet or my choice for this plane?

There have been a few reported issues, mostly dealing with a lubrication design issue on the camshaft. FWIW, I still would like to have both one of the 75's and am thinking a new 1.30 in a Seagull Decathlon might be nice...

Lots of posts about the worry of lack of lubrication. But I don't think there have been any actual failures. If worried I would suggest simply using a dab of wheel bearing greese to the camshaft area.

A failure indeed on my engine, but the TT F75S, not on the 130, on the 130 it was reported that some head had a defective glow plug thread, where the thread was not machined completely, and the user while trying to tighten the plug, it they stripped it.

The lubrication problem has been only reported on the TTF75S.

estradajoe is correct.

The lubrication problems are reported on the .75FS and not the 1.30 which has a typical lubrication system with open bearings.

Some of the 1.30's have poorly machined glow plug threads so search for the other thread and look at the pics before you try to start your engine.

Also, there is one reported issue where the user says his 1.30 piston shattered after 20 flights. This has so far only happened to one user so it may or may not be an issue.

My piston blew up. Apparently they rebuilt the engine (against my instructions as I demanded a new one) and I will let you know how it runs. It really ran great up until the failure. It's no YS or OS but it's cheap. I do think you get what you pay for in life and wish I bought a YS 1.40 to begin with!
