My engine looks for a home!!

Any suggestions?

Looking for a plane to have some fun (scratch built from me), maybe something fast... and good looking too!!
What size/weight should it be?

I know we are on the engines forum.......

Thanks!

Jorge

P.S: Thats an MDS 148 with an ASP carb and a JEN Inverted pitts muffler

Hello Dude!

I would put that engine on an Extra 300/260/330l... Any extra would be great!

I need to ask you a question, would you mind to take some pictures of you pitts from various angles and and send me?
My e-mail is [email protected].

Thanks a lot!
Mauricio

The 1.48 is actually a 1.52 and is a fine, very reliable engine, it rivals a Webra 1.20 for power. 5% fuel is a must and an OS-f, Fox Miracle or Saito SS plug. MDS called all their engines by number ending in 48 even if they weren't exactly.

Anybody know what ever became of MDS? Wouldn't mind getting my hands on one, just for the heck of it - and my collection. :D

They are nolonger imported that is for sure, but I do not know if they are still made for other area's. I think they kinda had a bad reputation here, and often were nicknamed "Many Dead Sticks" by fliers. There value is next to nothing since you cannot get any parts for them. I do know of a Brandnew .78 that has been sitting in a LHS for many many years.:)

I had 2 MDS's , and both died of the same thing. Broken conrods. With both engines, the little end wasn't bushed and they chewed up pretty quick. If I had 2 conrods, I would still have both of those engines running because the rest of them is like new, both inside and out. Both of mine were 40's and made power well beyond their requirement and throttled brillantly with their standard carb but the conrod couldn't hack it.

I think it would be great in a 120 size Seamaster.

Plans here. http://cgi.ebay.com/Giant-Ace-Seamas...item53df516d29

Thanks for the replies!!

I'm not putting this engine on ebay!! no way! I'm going to use it and fiddle with it! I want to do it! I'll use no nitro fuel and put a 4 stroke plug as hobbsy said.

The spacewalker looks nice!
The seamaster looks nice too! but I need one for "ground" landings!!

Some other suggestions out there? I'm really looking for a scratch build project...not a very sophisticated model.

Thanks to all!

You can put plug in landing gear on the Seamaster for "ground landings".
