engine problems

Has anyone ever mounted a 4 stroke engine with the head facing the left. I have only seen them straight up or to the right. would there be any problems mounted this way.

The advantage to facing the engine to the right is that it does not flood out from trapped fuel. The muffler will drain when it is is below the cylinder which is a real advantage. This is my favorite install as it presents very few problems.

The only problem I can see is if fuel backs up the pressure/vent line into the muffler, it will flood the engine with fuel. That can only happen when the engine is not running though, otherwise you should be fine.

Since it is a 4 stroke, unless the exhaust valve is propped open, fuel can't run into cylinder and even if it does, as long as you don't turn the engine backwards, it has to come out on the very first revolution. It is not like a 2 stroke where the crankcase fills with fuel. There's not really too much problem except that the exhaust will point upwards and spray onto the fuse. Also not too much of a problem with at 4 stroke since they burn a lot cleaner.

A friend sent me a picture of his new Kaos and he mounted the Saito 91 on its left side. He says it runs OK.
