Evolution .46 muffler screw needed

Does anyone know the size of the long muffler screw that holds the two parts together for a Evolution .46? I need a new one and I cant find the size. I was going to place an order with Tower hopping they would have one.

Steve,

Don't bother to search for 'proprietary R/C model' bolts...
Tower will live long even if you don't buy two bolts from them; and have them shipped.

These muffler bolts are rather simple, M3.0 x .5, or M3.5 x .6 items, which your local hardware supply could practically give away...

Just take the muffler and one of the old bolts with you, to make sure you get the proper metric thread and length.
Oxide coated, galvanized, or stainless ones will last longer; without corroding, or becoming stuck.

The one I'm looking for is about 140mm long, my hardware store does not have any like that.

OOPS!

So, that is not the 'muffler attachment bolts', but the long screw that holds the whole thing together...

I answered automatically... You can probably get a small diameter threaded rod, with appropriate lock-nuts and washers, at the same hardware supply...

Tower does not seem to list spare parts/components for this muffler, so you're pretty much on your own.

Tell you what works better than finding an exact match, and will work a lot better than the original bolt:

Get a Length of fully Treaded 6-32 rod & 2 6-32 Lock Nuts or Nylon Insert Lock Nuts(Nylocks)
Cut it 1/2' to 3/4" longer than the length of the silencer/muffler
Drill out the holes on both ends of the Muffler the same diameter as the Rod
Screw onto one end of the rod one of the Locknuts
Insert the Rod through the Muffler
Screw on the other Locknut
Snug down the Locknuts and your done

Gauranteed not to come apart, I use this method on my Pylon and Combat planes, I can't afford to have the Mufflers come apart in the middle of a Heat.

That's a good idea.

The threaded rod is an excellent idea. Cheap and quick.

Another 'booboo' on my part, David.[:o]

But there is no parts breakdown for [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EVO100601]the Evolution item[/link] either...

We all knew what you meant; no problem.

The user manual just shows it as the entire muffler assembly.

You can probably find all the hardware at a hobby shop if you are near one.

Do yourself a favor, and clean it good, and assemble it with some HIGH TEMP RTV (silocone). It should stay together forever, and not rotate than. You can get "Aluminum colored" which you canot even see when it is applied.:D This is a trick that is used on Tower Hobbies mufflers to keep them together.:D

If you don't have RTV on hand, just get a little epoxy in the threads and it will hold the nuts tight on each end as long as you want. I don't even bother to seal the muffler halves anymore.

An altogether better solution if you are placing an order with Tower is to spring $14 for the Tower 46 muffler. Better performance and cheap! It will work wonders for your Evolution 46.

Absolutely true. They are good on the .455 PTS engines too.
