fa 80 (older)
I am having trouble getting decent power out of it. will only turn a 13x6 at 8800-9000... is it cooked? How do you adjust valves? I just feel like it should have more power. At least as much as a friends OS 70 surpass, and I do not feel like it does? Suggestions please...

The cam timing may be advanced one tooth?
Valve clearance is .002" - .004" http://saito-engines.info/ |
RE: fa 80 (older)
A healthy saito .65 will turn a apc 13X6 @10K rpm. Does your engine have strong compression? There are many things that could cause a lack of power. |
RE: fa 80 (older)
The compression is good. How would one check the cam timing? I am not sure how to even check and/or adjust the vaves? What am I looking for? The instruction manual is not very helpful in this regard.

RE: fa 80 (older)
To check cam timing on an assembled engine
Remove the valve covers Find top dead center on the compression stroke Rotate the prop 360 degrees and both valves should be partially open - one closing and one opening. You can look across the tops of the rocker arms and they should be parallel with each other |
