ST45 Problems

Hi All,

First let me say this site is great!

ok so now to the problem, Ipurchased an ST45 used from a member here, got the engine mounted the whole nine yards, tried to fire it up, had it running for a few seconds then nothing. If I flood the engine then it will crank for a few seconds then die off. Ive only really had experiene with a thunder tiger .40 engine with one needle, the 2 needle hi/lo speed stuff is unfamiliar to me. I did my research and still cant get the puppy to crank!

any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks again to all

Try this site first

I assume you have a MagV carb. As this is a used engine a photo would be very helpful. It will help identify the model ST 45 you have and if it has the original carb and model. Also show some detail on the exhaust system and tank set up.

Crank is what your car does while the starter is being applied. When it starts, the engine is then running. Same with your model engine. Cranking is trying to start it. Once it starts, it is running - not cranking.

Hope you get your problems solved. The ST .45 is a terrific engine when you get it sorted out. That was a good buy.

Is it running strong, then dying off and not restarting??

If you're flooding it...and it's firing, running strong, then dying after a couple of seconds....you need to open the low speed needle up. Turn it counterclockwise. Eventually it will start and stay running
