Southwest Vintage R/C festival (attached flyer)
July 29-30-31
We are located in the heart of Color Country at an altitude of 5,800 feet. This is our second Vintage event, last year weather was just about perfect, near dead calm with a high in the upper 80s. It was suggested by one of last year’s participants that we incorporate a raffle this year, so that is what we are going to do.
We will have over a $1,000.00 of kits and building supplies for the raffle. The event is open to all AMA members, but is geared toward VRCS eligible models, any model aircraft kitted, or designed prior to January 1[SUP]st[/SUP] 1981. The model can have been originally designed as free flight, or control line, and can be scaled up or down to any size.
We will be flying Friday, Saturday, and Sunday but registration and the raffle will be Saturday only. The raffle will be ongoing from about 10 AM to 2 PM. All registrants will receive a raffle ticket, and an additional ticket for each VRCS eligible aircraft that they will be flying. No raffle tickets will be sold, and you will be able to choose what items you want in on.
Hope to see some SAM folks and Classic Pattern flyers, and hope I am not the only one flying rudder only.
Please feel free to call or e-mail me for more info.

Weather forecast is looking very promising noontime temperature 86 degrees and 6 mph winds straight down the runway. There will be a raffle right after lunch about 10 new Sig kits plus more stuff (a raffle ticket will be given to each entrant tickets are not for sale) House of Balsa will be there giving away some goodies. It looks like we will have a pretty good turnout, including a large contingent from the Classic Pattern Association, from CA.
Third annual Southwest Vintage R/C Festival July 29, 2017
This is a fun gathering of modelers that still like to build models the old fashioned way, with bits of balsa. It is held under the auspices of the Vintage R/C Society, and hosted by the Cedar City R/C Club, and the Iron Mountain Vintage Fliers. This year the cutoff date is for models kitted or plans published prior to 1983, models can have been originally designed for R/C, Free Flight, or even control line, converted to R/C. Landing fee is $10 discounted to $5 for VRCS, SAM, and Classic Pattern Assoc. members. AMA membership is required. The landing fee will include a BBQ lunch with a suggested $5 donation for additional family members.
The field is at an elevation of 5800 ft. and average high temps. Are 90 degrees that time of year, it is typically the calmest time of the year, but late afternoon, and evening thunder showers are not uncommon.
If you have an RV you can stay at the field (no hookups) there is a Forest Service type pit toilet. Lodging in Cedar City is plentiful, and in all price ranges, another option would be to stay in one of the lodges at Brian Head (35 minutes away) at 10,000 ft it is the second highest town in the U.S.
If you are able to stay for a few days you should plan on doing some sightseeing, Cedar Breaks. Kolab Canyons, Zion, Brice. Monuments and National Parks are nearby. Do some hiking, fishing, enjoy the Wildflowers. Or take in a play at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. https://www.bard.org
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
