Default A Grand Day Out

Yesterday's maiden flight of my DeBolt Rebel.
Florida's weather relaxed a bit into warm and calm. After a couple of unpowered tosses to adjust stab incidence, two perfect powered flights with nearby runway landings were attained. The second photo shows Mr. Platt taking a hand at the controls, and the photographer Beppe also got to fly it.
Covering is Polyspan/Nitrate/KlassKote.
Engine is a new OS 10.
Controls are rudder and throttle.
The transmitter is a 1968 PCS with the innards of a Futaba Conquest.

More photos.
Dave had one of these I flew on escapement a couple of years ago. Of all the single-channel planes I've flown, this design stood out as the best flyer, IMHO. After that, I had to have one.

Nice plane and radio. A while ago we converted a PCS, and a Kraft Gold Medal to 2.4GHz using Orange RX DSM2 modules and the original encoders. All you need to do is to add a pulse inverter to the encoder output (2N3904) and run the encoder on 6 volts using an LM317. Of course, if you use a modern encoder, you get reversing and rates and extras. I'm currently using Phil-G's arduino encoder, it's super simple to wire up as it uses 3 pin Futaba J plugs.

If you ever get too old for Wallace and Gromit, you've simply gotten too old.
