Value Planes Cloud Clipper 71 mods
My wife bought me a ValuePlanes Cloud Clipper 71 kit for Christmas.
it is all Laser-cut and packed very well with nice Balsa Wood.
The instructions are horrible and lack a lot of details so you need to be an experienced builder before you buy this kit.
It is a 3-channel super light plane made for Sunday flying but Iím a sport pilot so I made quite a lot of changes.
I took most of the Dihedral out of the wing, converted to Bolt-on, added Ailerons and wing struts. I used an Aluminum landing gear and added a steerable tail wheel.
I reinforced some areas.
it calls for .32-.40 glow engines but with all of the extra weight that I added Iwent with a Thunder Tiger .46.
im just waiting for a nice day to fly it.

C'mon, the suspense is killing me. I've been eyeballing this plane on Redwing for a while. I really wanna know how the now-flat, elliptical wing behaves at various speeds. What did you use for wing struts? Beautiful work overall.

I had to add nose weight because upon liftoff the tail dropped but I gave it some down elevator but after that it flew very nicely at fast speed and slow speeds- very
stable.
the Ailerons didnít really turn the plane so I had to program Rudder with the Ailerons and it now makes fast bank turns.
I did loops and rolls but they were rather slow.
I may need to shim the trailing edge to keep it from climbing (itís a flat bottom wing).
landings are slow and stable.
I made the wing supports out of strips of hardwood that I found at a friends shop.
I used miniature brass hinges to attach them.
I removed the hinge pin and used a small wire clip for fast set up and tear down.
I added the wing supports because I converted the wing to a Bolt-on and the fuselage is very narrow and itís a long wing- I wanted the supports for added security and sport flying.
My wife surprised me with this kit for Christmas without any RC Airplane knowledge so I had to make the changes for my style of flying- otherwise it probably wouldnít have been flown much.
itís really neat seeing that vintage style plane flying because itís so unusual.
I enjoy it and Iím happy with the changes that I made.
if you get one plan on adding an Aluminum landing gear because the supplied wire gear will bend.

Default Cloud Clipper conversion

Where did you source your landing gear?
Thanks for your time.

The landing gear is one that I had on a shelf.
I collect old RC stuff as I am a Glow Engine Only pilot.
