Default Sterling Tri Pacer - question about the elevators

Looking to build this classic for 3 channel RC with the least amount of deviations from the original, but not sure what to do about the enormous horizontal tail modification for incorporating elevators.

Would appreciate hearing from someone who has built and flown this.

I see two options: separate the elevators at the scale hinge line and use minimal deflection due to their enormous size, or should I simply use the elevators shown for a control-line model?
