Default Martin Space Ship

I have been asked by a 75 year old friend if I could find the plans for what sounds like the Martian Space Ship. It was designed by Roy L. Cloug Jr and looks like something from the Flash Gordon time. That is how my friend discribed it to me. It was like a 40 size and looked like a blimp. He would like to build one this Winter. It should be around the 1953 -1955 time frame.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Flyer,

I know that thing was published sometime in the 80s by either MAN or Model Builder. Let me check my "archieves" I'm sure I would have kept the article... I know exactly what it looks like... a blimp w/a .40 on the nose... As I recall the article said it flew well.. but had to be flown in no wind conditions.. I'll check

Why not just look at this link and video of a Spaceship flying around.

Part 1 of the construction article for Ruff's Martian Spaceship appeared in the August 1991 issue of Model Builder magazine.

This thing is anything but vintage but thanks to Dave for digging up the article for Skip Ruff's Martian Space Ship.
Great video of it flying by 'psk560' also. Looks like an easy to fly flying wing. Stable right down to a very low speed.
I don't quite understand the aerodynamics. If Skip reads this thread, perhaps he can explain it to us. Or any one else, also invited to comment.

BTW, Bill Northrop has plans available.

Gotta go dig out my M.B. for this one.
Thanks all,
Bob G

Actually the Skip Ruff design is a remake of an 049 powered free flight plane Roy Clough designed and built for publication sometime back in the mid 50. Actually, I think the engine he used in the original design wouldn't have much more power than one of todays Cox PeeWee 020s. And I think Bill Northrup does sell reproductions of the old Model Builder plans.

I would like to thank everyone for the information. I have decided to post it here for others that may start the request as I did. The updated version was by Skip Ruff and was in the Model Builders in two parts. I was able to get Bill Northro's Plans Services from the R/Cbay.net account. His address and phone & fax are:

Bill Northrop's Plans Service
2019 Doral Court
Henderson, NV 89074
PH) 702-896-2162 Mon - Fri 10AM to 4 PM Pacific
Fax) 702-897-7775

The articles and plans are available from them at a reasonable cost.

Thanks again!
