Default Antique Cannon A.M. Radio

Hey Guys, Like many before me, I have returned to the great world of RC flying after a several year absence. Also, like many others, I searched my old flying buddy's widows stash and found some interesting stuff. I have a Cannon radio, A.M., on 27.045mhz, complete with 4 servos, one missing the plug, the other three in a servo mount, and a receiver. I have never heard of this brand, don't know if it's a "home built" or over the counter rig. Looking for information, value, and possible interested parties for purchase of this system. I have several pictures and can make more. I am looking to unload this masterpiece at a bargain. It is of no use to me, but someone, somewhere may need it for a collection. Let me hear you thoughts, thanks, Paco Ritter, Texarkana, Arkansas.

That Cannon radio is from around 1968-69. Company was Bill Cannon's who did radio systems for a very long time. The servos are KPS-9 mechanics (Kraft) as well as the sticks. That was not unusual back then, as Kraft, Orbit, and Bonner parts were used by other US manufacturers. I have the 3 channel version of this very radio. It performed fine in a Major Model's Saulnier (Nick Ziroli design) and a Top Flight Schoolmaster (Ken Willard design). I also tried it in a Ra/Car, (anyone remember those?) where I kept shattering the receiver crystal due to viberation.

Thanks for the info, HighPlains. At least I know more now than I did this morning about this radio system. I dont know if it works, have no way of knowing or planning to find out. I will try to sell it or auction it off in the near future. Thanks again...PACO

You are right about the details of it
you could buy it as a kit or ready built
I built mine 5ch
built the small rx and standard rx and the servos
it worked brautifully for years t`ill the batts went away
it was then illegal for airplanes so I mooved on
and she still sit`s on shelf with my engine collection
if I remember right the kit and 4 servos ha cost me 169 cdn
was expensive in those days
over 500 flights on tha radio

Pacoritter:

For your info, that is on 27 Mhz, Channel 2. I believe (the Cannon) still legal to be used. Lot of Park Flyers there. Your TX looks different from mine.. Mine is miniature about 6 inches square. Doesn't fit my hand too well.

You are right for off field use mine is on 27.045 also and wide band
and I very seldom fly away from club fields
a narrow band radio is needed for operation at MAAC or AMA fields even for park flyers
still legal for cars and boats
U got me on that LOL
Good luck on sale, good radio
if smaller case your radio is newer
talked a few times to Bill Canon very nice guy

The AM freq you use is legal to fly and not required to be narrow band as 72 mh.

However CB usage has caused many to not use the 27 mh band. The servos look like the KPS 9 servos and I own several of them. Due to age the motors lose the magnitism and move very slowly. I think if you put new batteries in the system it might work. And It might fly a plane. However due to the low cost of a new 72 mh narrow band system with much better response might be a better system. To auction it off don't expect much. There are many 27 mh around. I own 3. You can use them and I have.

Best of luck on your auction but don't expect a lot of $$.. Jim

The servo's are Kraft/Heathkit. I have used many of them in the past. Way past.
