Default Penn Valley Hobbies Quaker 84....

is ready for covering. This fine kit built up really well! I will be covering it with Vintage Yellow Solartex and trimming it out with dark green butyrate dope and a coat or two of clear butyrate to seal the fabric. Power will come from a Saito .56. I'll post more when it's done.

Makes me want to get another Areonca Champ. My first RC. Single channel. Hard tube receiver, escapement and I built it so badly, it never did fly. Think I could do it right this time.

Scott,

What's your opinion of making it into a 2-piece wing? 84 is a little long.

Ed,

The whole wing fits into my truck cab ok, but a two piece wing would be much easier to manage. I have a 9 ft. Dallaire Sportster that I have to hang out the back window. It fit in my old van ok though.

its real simple. if I can do it on my 14 foot" Qaker you can do it on yours. 3 1/4 Plywood joiners in the slots work real good. will send photos soon as I get it out of storage. its too big for for shop, stuffed with all the rest of the done and to do's. dick

My buddy Flaps Laffert has the 54" version with a .15 and it's a nice flying plane. I mentioned the big one and he'll build. We'll use my Saito .56. Ought to be about right. We both have S-10's with tops so 84" won't fit. That's the reason I was asking about the 2-piece wing. I have seen some sailplanes with a metal rod and aluminum tubes.

I told him we should take the small one and make a twin fuselage version.

Ed,

Here's my 67" Quaker Flash in the back of my F-150. It will easily fit in the short bed or the big cab. The 84" wing will fit in the cab also or diagonally across the short bed. I will carry it in the at first in the cab though until I can get something rigged up to transport it in the bed. Anything larger than this will have to be two piece. Not as good as my old van for carrying, but much nicer for other things beside transporting airplanes to the field

I can't wait to get the 84" bird flying. The 67" Quaker is a lot of fun to fly. Can you say stress relief Please post some pics here when you get your plane finished,

Scott

Well, I'm getting the loose ends tied up here and thought I'd post a pic...

I covered the airframe in Vintage Yellow Solartex. The trim is Sig Forest Green butyrate with one coat of Sig Clear butyrate sprayed on. I put a set of Trexler 11G balloon wheels on it which really look nice on this plane. The Solartex fabric is wonderful to work with-btw

had a good idea on the split wing on the 14 foot Flying Qaker, however I will never get a chance to fly it Hurricane Katrina took it and our complete house, plus 3 shops in back yard. it left the front concrete steps only. no sign of any wood, just afew heavy tools, big cast iron drill dress, was moved approx 10 ft and standing upright ready to run- with new electric motor, floor band saw also moved upright and ready to run. big cast iron vise lifted off bench mounting bolts- bench is gone. water and wind are Da-- powerfull. all of my models hanging from living, dinning and 2 bed rooms gone, no scraps. anyhow we rode it out on a floating roof top, after the 3 story beach front building collapsed. n scrath's just bad memories and looking to tomorrow each. we are fortunite to be alive. we are safe and loking foreward to each new day, that includes more model building real soon. have located the local flying field, here in Greenwood,La. tomorrow is another beautiful day to look foreward to. dick stamm l

Hi, I just joined this forum and have a question about the quaker 84' from Penn Valley Hobbies I'm trying to build now. I can't understand the way the stab and rudder must be built. if anyone has a picture of the stab before covering, it would be of great help...
