Paul, The weather of recent has turned nice.
The Falcon was taken to the field to maiden and make video.
The rudder servo a Hytec 225MG stripper the primary gear just before take off - no load. Thank you god.
Second time around, the flight was attempted at WPB a a nice little field.Paved.
The plane failed the range check - I rearranged the antennas ( 2.4) the receiver went dead. Futaba.
Back at the house, I took the receiver out, relink, the receiver is dead. Will replace.
Maybe the third time will be the charm!

John, my Falcon must look pretty much like yours was way back in the 60. I need a Skylark to go the the Vintage Society Fly in. - I have the kit

You done a great job recreating the original Falcon 56. Nothing wrong with taking a few more minutes to make sure everything is working correctly before the first flight.
I think I actually preferred the Skylark. It was a great airplane to throw around the sky when I didn't want to drag out my larger aerobatic model.

Not having a working radio -

What could be more vintage than that?

Hey HighPlains,no radio uh?...you can go reeeaally vintage....then go with two pieces of string and a handle...

I've got a Falcon 56 too, it's very old but still flies exceptionally well.

Cheers

That's what I was thinking...
Good thing you didn't have to go treking through the scrub brush or woods to retrieve it...(or worse )

Looks real nice![8D]

Hi, I want to report that the Falcon flew. In WPB. between two downpours at 6.45pm. the plane took off after a roll of 50'. The first turn left in the climb the tail skidded right and the
falcon came downwind. I must admit that it is a gracious airplane in flight, and it turn good both side at full trow. The CG is within the envelope, but at the back. Makes the rudder more reponsive. After 5 minutes, the plane was turned in to land, The idle was fast and the plane glided the whole runway at 5'. Second attempt, the engine was killed at the treshhold and it still glided a long way. It settled on the main a little nose up. Perfect.

Trim the lateral trim was perfect- no trim at all.
The plane was trying to clib so down trim was applied. It needed also almost the full trim down to maintain level flight.

I will correct the incidence of the trailing edge of the wing. The stab is out of the question, it is epoxied.
And I need to break in my engine some more to assure a reliable idle
-
The sound of the raindrops on the wing is like a drumbeat.

This is the end of the Falcon build - it is airworthy.

Hi, DON'T BUILD IT FROM KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Build it from the included plans and keep kit intact. It will soar its value as time goes by.
Can you scan the plans and send them to me?

Build the kit. Falcon 56 kits were produced in the tens of thousands and almost half were lost in closets unbuilt. It will be many decades before they are rare.

Unless you have the original "narrow nosed" kit which is somewhat hard to come by. But if it is a "deluxe", they are common.

Original Goldberg kits appear on Ebay at regular intervals. Early RC offers a laser kit also so build it and enjoy.

Beautiful looking model Ray. Its on my list of those to build someday. I built the jr Falcon and am haveing a ball with it. I may build the 56 with my grandson as a scratch building project soon. Glad it flies as good as it looks....Gene

Very nice Ray...
I especially like the in-flight pics [8D]

Hi  Just read this material about the Falcon 56.  I am presently in the process of building one that I started long ago.  I had a foam wing cut for it and then finished it good ole K&B super poxy.  I learned on a Falcon 56.  Can you let me know more about what happened to start making it again?  Thank you

I would love to get either the plans or a kit for the Falcon 56. I originally built and flew this plane in Thailand back in the 70's. Back then I had a Kraft radio and a fox 25 for the Falcon. Would love to do it all over again.

Bob,
If you can get me an original canopy, I will be glad to carve you a plug for vacuum forming.

Jim, I think I have a few canopies around here somewhere. Dan at Wing Mfg/Early RC Models makes them for the Jr falcon, Falcon 56 and Sr Falcon. That's how we met many years ago. I was looking for someone to do the canopies. Dan does most of the canopies for many of the kit mfgs. He does canopies up to 1/2 scale!!

Mike,

Are you still using the Heathkit with it?

I still have a Heathkit like that with RX, battery box and servos and the construction manual if anyone is interested.
Sincerely, Richard
