Wow, what a dope I am. The material list was right in front of me. I opened up the build manual, and the first couple pages is the list. I should be able to get the material ordered some time this weekend. Now I'm getting excited. I've always wanted to build this one.

How's the scale outline of this kit? I've never built an "actual scale" model, but I want this one as close as I can get it. Man, I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks guys, Steve.
I can vouch for that! After building the lower wing using the light ply ribs, I thought it felt pretty heavy. I cut the ribs for the top wing from balsa, and even though it is larger, it was several ounces lighter than the lower wing.

Scale outline is decent on the fuselage other than lower wing center section. The full scale does not use a bolt on wing so the kit offers nothing in the way of a belly pan. Tail feathers are way off. They have you build the tail with a knife edge planform. Full scale used tubing. The wings are way off in every direction. Kit is a D tube design and the spars are too far rearward, the kit wings are not tapered toward the tip, and are constant thickness all the way to the tip plate.

Hey bill, you spoke of a redesigned wing plan? Where would I find that? Thanks for all the info so far. Steve.

Thanks bill, I just came across a PDF file about the 1/5 YMF-3 titled " pica YMF-3 , a practical size for the 80's. Or something like that. Is that what your talking about? It seems to have a lot of modifications and revisions.

Oh, BTW bill, is it too soon to be added to the list of Waco brothers? Or do I have to wait till the first piece is cut and glued? I did, technically already sink money into the Waco. The plans, the cowl and pants from fiberglass specialties, and I will be ordering a flatbed load of wood today. I would be proud to display "Waco brotherhood" at the bottom of my posts. Thanks.

My Great Planes WACO ARF is now on display over a new indoor children's play area at our Maine Mall in South Portland sponsored by the Portland International Jet Port. They had approached the local hobby shop Ray & Robins to see about purchasing planes and the shop suggested letting club members display planes and rotate them in and out through the year. The shop really wanted a plane like mine for it's color and kid appeal so I agreed to displaying it. The grand opening is next Monday with special events and prizes.

Very nice! Lets hope there isn't a ball pit! Your plane could become a drone for target practice!

Thank you, thank you. Just got my plans and temps today, so I will start cutting within the next couple of days. I'll be working this project along with two more, so it certainly won't be breaking any speed records, but then again, with a project like this nothing gets rushed.thanks again. Steve.

Steve,
The templates your speaking of, do they show the more scale location for the wing spars?

Hello all
It’s been some time since my last post I had some reading to catch up on. I see there’s some interest in the wing ribs with the more scale location for the spars. With Bills help I recut ribs with the spars in the proper location and built the wing tips in a more scale manner. I have the templates for the ribs cut out of plywood I can trace them and post them along with some pictures if you’d like. They make for a much better looking wing.
I’ll trace the ribs out tomorrow and try to scan then.

I am currently bulding the 1/5 scale Pica Waco and love this kit. I have told friends about my build and alot of them would love to have one. Another Bi-plane that is really sought after is the Carl Goldberg Bucker. I have built 2 of these and they are great flyers, I still have one with a YS 120 and a new kit on the shelf. Glad to see that you are taking the initive to do this, it would be great to see the Pica YMF in production again.

It won't be in production but you can order the plans and our parts templates from the AMA plans service. Fibertech has the correct cowl and wheel pants. Have at it.
