Parts for Super Tigre G21 .46 wanted
Planning well ahead for next years Mid-South Vintage meet, I want to resurrect my venerable 1965 Super Tigre G21 .46. My R/C mentor gave it to me well used in 1969 -
it flew in my Henchman, Dee Bee Eyeball, Das Little Stik, Cherokee Babe, Quickie 500 and finally in the late 80s, a Gee Bee Islander flying boat! The connecting rod is totally shot, the rings are worn but the bearings seem OK. I'm not having any luck on Ebay looking for parts for an engine this old.
This was simply the best R/C engine I ever owned - light, powerful and reliable. Somewhere along the way, an after market muffler replaced the exhaust baffle and a Perry carb took over for the original one. The CL vintage stunt guys love this engine too, and are driving the price up on Ebay to well over 100 dollars. If anyone out there has any parts, especially a conrod and piston/rings cylinder sleeve, I'd like to hear from you...Russ Farris

Hey Russ,
Sometimes ya just gotta grin and bear it. It would probably be easier to buy a replacement engine than try to find parts for it. Yeah the G21/46 is a popular engine but it's a supply and demand thing. Regarding ebay, just putting a rare item there drives the price up. Maybe you would want to try a swap meet like the ones in Lebanon, PA or Perry, GA. I find that the prices are lower and you can usually dicker over the price. Or, find out who the guys are with the parts stash and talk to them.

Russ, you were just a few minutes from John's Hobbies in Fuquay Varina at the fly in. John has boxes of old engine parts still in the package. He was the guy who went and got the needle valve for Dave Platt's old OS after the tree incident on Saturday. He possibly has the best stocked airplane shop in the area especially for the builder and people needing engine repair. I will see if I can get you his number.

Find a friend that is good with a lathe. He can fit the old rod with a bronze bushing -- the rod will last for ever. We did this on the .60 ST -no problem from then on.

If you have part numbers, I'll go through my box of new Super Tiger parts and see if I got what you need. All I ask is paying for shipping if I have it.

RE: Parts for Super Tigre G21 .46 wanted
Tim,
For a .15 RV glo engine I need:
Crankshaft--#1082 or #10046
Con rod--#1095 or #10160
Wrist pin--#10171 or #02270357
Rotor valve--#1091
Any other .15 RV parts I would be interested.
As you know, Super Tigre didn't do any of us any favors by changing the parts numbers the way they did.
Thanks,
Richard

Be aware that ther a couple of versions of the 46, so ir helps to have knowledgable help. Tom Lay (T&L) and Frank Bowman are the experts in the ST 46. I don't have their addys in front of me, but email me if I can look then up for you. BTW, I hhave a NIB 46 CL that took several dep breaths before ponying up the asking price, But I love that ST growl!

RE: Parts for Super Tigre G21 .46 wanted
As a follow up to this old thread, I didn't rebuild my old ST .46 - I got a nice clean one off a certain auction site. Sent it to
Frank Bowman in New Mexico, he went through it, replaced the rings and essentially blue-printed the engine for a very reasonable 35.00 bucks with a one week turnaround. It runs great with a Perry carb and pulls my 4.5 pound Goldberg Shoestring great. I can't reccomend Frank too highly, he does great work and knows the G21 series engines inside and out.
