Default RE: SIG Kommander

I build a Kommander as my first RC plane, learned to fly on it when there was no buddy box... passed the transmitter. If I recall, Santa brought World Engines radio gear for Christmas in '74, and the Kommander kit was purchased in Jan of '75 and was the first one built in our area so don't think they had been out too long.

I do recall that it was silked screened balsa sheets and all parts had to be cut out and that was before owning any tools beyond a hobby knife and sanding block. I did use 3M spray adhesive to skin the wings (think the formula was safe for foam back then). Covered with silkspan and doped.

It was powered by an Enya .40 *****e ported bb engine that nearly equaled the power of the older Enya .60I. Almost thirty five years later, that engine is still running strong.

It was flown for most of a season and long enough to get proficient and while doing areobatics with it on a cloudy day orientation was lost. The second plane was a Sweet Stick and the third was a Sig Couger, and the fourth was a Sig Skybolt and the 5th.....

Did anyone happen to get a mold of canopy? I just landed my show quality Kommander in a tree top...

Default SIG Kommander

This one was modified during the build to have less dihedral and 2.25 inch wide ailerons. A gem to fly. Yet to be covered. Below are the two color schemes being considered.

Considering two covering options.

Thanks for the re-inspiration. I have an incomplete Komander that I started in 1985 and put away when my daughter started crawling and pulling up. Fuse built, wings skinned and ready for the smaller bits.
