Covering Materials
Gidday Guys
What covering material is the best for that great vintage look. I have a Ben Buckle Super Scorpion plan and am itching to build it. Just doing some background research before I attempt to construct this beautiful model.
Cheers

gretsch6136:
How big is the model? I not familiar with it. Wing span, length, weight stuff.
Silk works, silkspan might, solorcote or a real lite ceconite covering will to, antiqued of course.

I am going to scale the plane to a 40" wing span. It is a typical Old timer design with an eliptical wing, all framed construction.

RE: Covering Materials
if you want realistic Old Timer ? use one of the wifes old bed sheet with lots of thin Nitrate Dope. thats what we used back in the 1930's. none of the new fancy covering matl's were available. today I would use Coverite fabric, that is if you can find it. dick

RE: Covering Materials
Japanese Esaki silk is the quintessential covering. And for a 40" model it wouldn't break the bank. Just don't try and cover a Lanzo Record Breaker with it![X(]
A number of places sell it such as Sig, Aerodyne Online (http://www.freeflightmodels.com/page..._materials.htm). I don't know if being in Australia you can get things from England easier than from the US. Michael J. Woodhouse sells it and I think Sams in England does, too.
As an alternative I'd use Worldtex or Solartex which is an iron-on fabric made in the UK. It's available from Horizon Hobby and Balsa USA here in the States. The colors are a bit heavy (like Monokote), but the natural is very light and can be painted very easily. Here's a pic of the natural Worldtex.

Hi rainedave.
I just love your CG Falcon, I built a Sr Falcon in the 60s and have a couple just begging to be built in my "To Do" room.
