Old engine
I bought this engine Monday,it had been in a wet basement. All the steel parts were very rusty & the rest had turned white from corrosion, but it turned over & was all there. Took it apart & the inside was perfect, again thanks to castor oil! Had several head fins bent also. I have found the best way to clean out side is not to glass bead but to use tooth-paste & brush & scrub the H>>> out of it. I use the wifes brush, think she likes the taste? This was almost a throw away, but it sure gives satisfaction when you can save one. >>>>>>>>>big max 1935

O & R 23
Congratulation on your SAVE -- love that castor oil. I always add a few ounces to any new fuel that buy.
Nice to bring one back from oblivion.
Will you run it ??

Naw I doubt if I will run it . I have the most fun just bringing them back . I am not a collector,so it will find a new home some day. I have no doubt that it will run though. Some of those old O & R`s are hard to tell what size they are unless you take the front off & look at the crank shaft, its stamped on counter weight. For an engine that was one of the best in its time they are quite crude by todays standards. These new guys don`t know how nice they have it now. Thanks Watson! >>>>big max 1935

Hi Big Max 1935: I would guess that your engine was probably manufactured sometime in the late 50's. I have two O&R 23's that I purchased in the early forties - and they carry serial numbers 48769 and 69263. You can see that there were more than 350,000 engines produced from then to get to the serial number on your engine.

Hi George: Big Cub - coming nicely. Right wing finished - covered and painted. Left wing - covered and doped - ready for paint. Tail assembly covered and painted. Now for the hard part - designing the fuselage. Will be getting to that soon. Also trying to figure out how to come up with a pair of scale looking wheels - 7" dia x 2 7/8 wide, x 2 1/4 hub. Any ideas?

Cub stuff
For the wheels, how about one of the large farm or garden supply houses, such as, Northern Hydraulics in Minnesota. They have a lot of stuff designed to build your own small farm or garden equipment and also some go kart supplies. Maybe those wheels could be adapted and then put on custom wheel hub caps for the cub look. Might be weight problem though.
