Here's a NotForSale project I've been thinking about for about a year. DLE 20 cc for power, 60 inch wing, 48 inch l.o.a.. a 15 inch chord with a 3 inch thick airfoil. Complete weight without covering is slightly less than 8 pounds. Target weight is less than 9 complete.

Well, it's done.....just in time for the coldest day of the season. 9.5 pounds (estimated) Mixed the ailerons to the elevator halves just to see what would happen. Will post a flight report after a 60 degree day with mild southerly winds. The bottom is solid white, so I should get a good contrast when rolling.

OzMo,

Do you ever fly with the Eldon crowd?

Lifer,
OH yeah! Learned to fly there. Dave McDonald taught me. You'd think I could fly better than I do because of that, but nope.
I don't get up near as often as I would like but what a great bunch of guys!

I had already been in the hobby for nearly 20 years when I met Dave, but he taught me the finer points of trimming a plane and I'm still reaping the benefits this day. Good guy and a good group out there.

Hard to say how many have benefited from the building skills he taught me way back when. I pass 'em along every chance I get.

Here's some brief videos from the test flight day:

I wish we had been able to video the flat, inverted spins, which are my favorite. From 100 feet it made at least 30 turns before I pulled out with altitude to spare. Several trim adjustments were made and the fuel tank mounted behind the spar and the c/g presented no problems. It needed no forward stick when flying inverted. Most of the flying was at 1/2 throttle and it appears to climb straight up at full power and doesn't seem to fall off. Pretty much will climb straight up to the limits of my vision. I'm currently using an APC 16x8. I'll try different props on the next outing but all-in-all, a fun plane to fly.

Lifer, did you make the wing detachable. If so, how did you do it?

No, I made it in one piece. It just fits in my minivan when angled to clear the opening. I would like to try one with a standard removable/bolt-on wing or with a blade spar. If so, I'll sell this one to fund the build.
