RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
The airframe is now dressed with a few coats of white and once sufficiently dry I can mask for the red. It has been a rainy afternoon here in NE Florida so I have been working on badging to cut masks for.

Here are the better photos of the plan, hope these help some of you get started on a build.
-Due to the 6000k limit per post these will be completed over the next few posts.

Actually, these photos won't be completed over the next posts.
Publishing plans with the help of RCU isn't in the cards. They're basically copyrighted products, even after they're no longer on the market, and providing copies with a ruler to help reproduce them really isn't something RCU would like to be a party to.
So these posts have been removed.
EVERYONE, please don't use RCU to share plans like this.

Once again, just trying to help.
Anyway... I got the nose painted this evening, I should get the tail and wing painted tomorrow. Then I should have a few photos to post.

I understand the rules and why RCU has to be careful, and I don't object to that. I just want to point out that the AMA is reproducing plans like these and making money off them. I am sure they do not have permission because they would say so if they did. The Pond collection, which they now carry, had plans that were still available from other sources. The AMA states that they will not sell those plans, and they cut them out of the Pond list. But they have no problem with plans that are not available elsewhere.
Acs, thanks for your effort (I got 'em). I'm glad people are figuring out ways to keep these old designs alive. It's not that the copyright owners are losing potential profits (when they haven't offered them for sale for years and show no intention of doing so). The only issue is whether people are going to continue building these planes or not.

The AMA has the manpower and connections to investigate old plans and such. RCU has some volunteer, unpaid mods, none of whom probably do copyright investigations.
It is more important to insure we don't violate copyright than it is to make it easier for people to pass around old plans.
If you look closely, the only thing that was asked was that plans not be copied and plastered into posts in public. It's better if that practice not be identified with any website, especially ones that try hard to support both the modelers and the mfgs.
This thread is about the Midwest Tri-Squire. Let's keep the posts on that topic, ok.

And if you'll look closely, you'll see I didn't dispute your policy. And this is WAY closer to topic than where most threads wind up going.

Jim,
I am glad you got the photos of the plan, I hope they are useful.
I didn't get the color completed today, a break in the rain led to an afternoon at the beach. I did finish the bottom and LE of the wing, and the fuse is 75% done too. Hope to get it done tomorrow and ready for clear.

Just pulled the masking off and threw in the electronics to get a few photos and check the balance again. Balance is still spot on! I am quite happy with how it has turned out so far. I still need to paint the cabin windows and then shoot clear.

So far the weight is around 3.5lbs including the battery which weighs nearly 7 oz... Around 16oz/sqft wing loading, around where a trainer should be. It doesn't list a weight on the plan. Where is everyone else coming out on weight?

I wonder why Midwest dont re-issue their Tri Squire. They are still in business I think. It was a faboulous trainer and also a great looking plane when decked out like Ace's Squire.

I am finally applying the clear today... If I don't get it done this weekend, it will be put on the shelf for a while. I do custom woodworking for extra hobby cash and have a paid project that will take over the shop for atleast a week or two. Getting the clear done this weekend means that by the time this other project is done, the dope will have had plenty of cure time before final assembly. Hoping to maiden in about 2 weeks.

I got all the clear applied today! I'll have to re-coat the wing tomorrow, evidently the humidity went up when the sun went down... the top of the wing has blushed despite having around %5 of retarder. The recommended %10 probably would have stopped this from happening. [:@] I was trying not to get the mix too thin.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
Well, today was the day! [8D]
I ended up having a free evening this week to drop in the electronics and install the windows. I did a thorough preflight before bed last night and took out the TS for maiden this morning. I did a few taxi runs to get the nose gear tracking well and promptly took flight. ROG was within 25 feet or so, easing the throttle up to 3/4, and then WOT at around 30 deg up to altitude. The torque of the Power 15 seemed to pull a bit at WOT and required a small bump on the rudder to keep from rolling. Once leveled out no trimming was needed to maintain tracking and altitude just above half throttle. Winds were heading straight East down the runway at around 5mph and the TS didn't seem to notice at all. At a healthy 3.5lbs I was a little concerned with the weight despite knowing I am in a decent range for wing loading, given the short ROG, I am happy to see she's no pig. Input response seems to be great for such minimal control area affirming the designers wisdom in this area. I did not try any aerobatics; In my haste to get in the air ,knowingly, I neglected to put in a battery strap in addition to the velcro in the battery tray... The pack was secure, I just didn't want to risk anything. Landing was uneventful, though the TS wants to float (nearly too much for my S.T.O.L. field), she seems to nearly land herself. With a total of around 5 flights and 25-30 min total flight time, I wrapped up the day a happy pilot. The Power 15 seems to be the right choice if used as a trainer, though a .10 equiv motor would fly just fine, the extra power is nice. The 2 ZIPPY 4s lipo packs did good for being 2 years old, but the power 15 is a bit much for them, and got them a little puffy, so I plan to order a few new packs before flying the TS again. After nearly 3 years from start to finish, seeing it leave the ground into the sky was thrilling. I have flown a lot the past year, but nothing has been as satisfying. I'll get some final pics up once I get the numbers on... Now that the TS has earned them.

Great job there Acs, cant wait to start on mine, I'm going to order the laser kit for the Esquire, which is a Tri Squire in tail dragger configuration. It's going to be powered with an electric motor, I have a Zippy lipo and a Turginy .40 equivalent motor.

Congratulations! It's wonderful to pull off something that you have worked toward step by step over a long period. It's what the hobby's all about. Thanks for all the posts.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
Thanks for the compliments guys! I finally got new battery packs on the way after awhile on backorder at HK. I tried flying on a 3s pack and found it was severely underpowered, after a few runs down the runway, I decided not to lift off with the 3s pack. So I am glad I went with the Power 15 and 4s pack from the start. I have my AMA number applied in black vinyl and hope to get a few pics in the next day or two... Other projects are currently more pressing.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
Congrats on the successful maiden! I'm working on a redesign of the Tri-Squire for laser cutting and was curious if you could post a shot showing your battery installation/location. I've been wanting to build a new Tri-Squire for years. It was the first balsa RC plane I ever built...back in the early 80's.
