The Aeronca would satisfy the need to 'make it like it was' but how about a vintage C/L design? Ringmaster/Trixter/something like that?

You might try ebay- I've seen several kits and plans for vintage c/l models there lately. Search "cl" or "vintage" in toys and hobbies/radio control/air. Seems like a lot of c/l stuff gets listed under radio control.
Good Luck!
