Kwik Fli

Have just recently completed a Kwik Fli. The fuse was entirely plans built with the wing built from a partial wing kit. First effort at barndoor ailerons. Being somewhat sentimental, as it is an older kit I had to put Fox motor up front. I wasn't happy with the power plant choice at first but, now that I have put about 15 flights on it, the Fox is just about broken in and I am lovin' it. Starts easily, idles well, pulls the plane around the patch with no problems and appears to be getting better with every tankful. I covered the plane with Solartex.

After looking at my small fleet I have come to the conclusion that most of my planes are early 70's era designs. My other workhorse plane is a Bridi Sun Fli 4. What a marvelous flying plane. I do like the way they fly.

Post some pics of both! I do like the Sun Fli 4 in 20 size. That was one of my faves till I lost it due to dumbness. I used to use the same transmitter on it as another plane, and forgot to reverse the servo direction in the xmitter panel (old school with the tiny switches). Yes, I tried the ailerons and they moved, but not in the correct direction. Sure I realized it as soon as I took off and ended up in a tall walnut tree, haha. Dang, it was a great flier, and very lightly built. Used an OS25FP on it. It was so aerobatic, I learned and practiced many 4 point and slow rolls on it. Let's see some pics of your planes!

Thanks for sharing. Jon

Here's my KwikFli 3.

This is from a Graupner Kit that I had been hoarding for at least 20 Yrs before it was built. Engine is was OS 55AX and a 12-6 prop.

Sadly, this KF3 died too early from a too low and slow spin recovery.

I do have another Graupner kit in storage that I'll probably build someday, with the same 55AX.

The 55AX is quite an improvement from the OS Goldhead 60 I used in a KwikFli back in the 70's.

Yes, Me too. it flew so effortlessly and had a great speed range, it was just me. I was doing spins to landing from downwind abeam the numbers, and just got too slow...

We have creek about 75 feet off of the east end of the runway, and of course Murphy was there to see that it went in the creek. Radio and Engine survived

I'm not sure if Jeff is still makeing kits or not, but he puts out a very nice lazer cut kit of the Kwik Fli. I have one & its first class all the way. Check out his web site at Classic R/C Hobby, i believe it was formerly called Home & Hobby Solutions......Gene

Thanks for that but building space is very limited hence artf and want to fly now not in 12 months time yes I am a slow builder

Truckracer 10-28-2015 09:33 AM

The Top Flite kits show up from time to time on the common auction site. Prices are usually reasonable. Graupner kits seem quite rare.

The plane would be a fairly easy candidate for scratch building and in the process the structure could be simplified quite a bit. Modern engines and radios would make it a joy to fly.

Be advised, those plans are for the Quik Fli II which had some stability problems. The later III version flew much better in my opinion. The Top Flite and Graupner kits are both the III version.

There were so many pattern designs back in the day but the Kwik Fli III was always one of my favorites. The experience I gained with mine was very short lived as I thought I needed something "better". What I ended up with for a next airplane was not better and in fact, discouraged me quite a bit.

Cough up a kilobuck or so and contact a professional builder to make you one.
