Reeds emulator?

For some reason, I have an interest in learning to fly reeds. I have all of 60 seconds of reed experience in the mid 1960s when my R/C mentor let me fly his Mighty Mambo. But all of my experience since has been proportional.

I've seen a few synthetic reeds systems in the last few years, Dave Platt had one at a Mid-South meet, which I think was engineered by Ron Ellis (Grotto2). But Ron's website states he is not currently doing conversions. Any other options you guys are aware of?

Hey Russ,

Phil G. has a reed emulator set up. I am in the process of putting one together. All reed functions are done with a single chip. You wil need a reed tx or make one. I will have have it at Julian this May.

Looks like a very easy way to play with reeds, can even have a buddy box set up. Give me a call 919-630-5186.

RE: Reeds emulator?

Marshall - great to hear from you! I'm busy at work for the next week or so, I'll give you a call when things calm down.

I've have a Goldberg Sr. Falcon ARF that is perfect for reed flight training. I've also saved a number of searches on a certain auction site for reed transmitters. Controlaire is my first choice since my R/C mentor in the 60s had one. I also like the looks of Citizen-Ship, F & M, Orbit and C & S. And the OS Minitron is beautiful! But condition is the main consideration.

Marshall, do you plan on 2.4 or 27/72 mhz?

RE: Reeds emulator?

Russ,

Great to hear from you as well. My first choice is a Controlaire tx. I have a friend that has one and he promised to sell or trade it to me after the holidays. Should happen soon.

Probably will make it 27, then it will match my single channel Mule. It can be done wither way of course. I will be happy to lend a hand if you need it.

If you haven't already, take a look at Phil's web site. Lots of info there. He is very passionate about single channel and reeds. Also very sharp and innovative, and a nice guy as well.

I will bring the Testors stuff to Julian if we don't get together sooner.

Looking forward to your call.

Marshall
