RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
Some more info please.... who's, when.... It's good looking in clear...
I would say "wait, who you calling an old timer, awww I'm on the tarmac again..." |
RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
Looks like photo-shopped "way back now" :D Is that a 4-stroke muffler I see up front? ;)
|
RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
Evan and GeraldO,
That's my Quaker Flash in the pic. It is a Photoshop 'modified' image:) I just converted one of my images to grayscale and added a little Sepiatone layer to it to make it look old[:-]. The muffler is a Saito .40 hangin' out there, sharp eye GeraldO!! I thought the transparent covering would be the giveaway on this pic. Took the pic after its maiden flight a few days ago;) Scott |
RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......

I have really enjoyed the Samtalk message board since I subscribed recently. The Quaker is only my second OT model and I'm learning a lot from the knowledgeable folks there. I'm really looking forward to building some of the many nice designs of the 30's and 40's. They sure attract lots of attention at the flying field :D Scott |

here's another of my Antique/Vintage Models. as usual Scratch built from my plans, enlarged from 8x11 3 vu. 1923 Farman 121"Jabaru" Tri Motor. 82"ws x 28 1/2 chord. 3 electrics. 9 3/4# plus battaries. 2 scary test flights so far. wing incidence is now adjustable. my pilot is still recuperating. spring flying weather around the corner. dick

RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
Wow! Interesting wing construction! What did you cover it with?
Looks like it'll really float with that big wing, Scott |
RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
covering is White Coverite fabric -- which I use a lot of, when I can find it-- no longer in production. the wing is my version of Geodedic construction, strong and light. dick

RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
how big was the plane in your picture? 20ft? Someones selling 14ft quaker plans on ebay, i was thinking about it. I used to have a normal size on till it flew away(years ago). What engine was in your plane?
|
RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
which picture are you referring to? the last one, White covering, geodedic construction is 81", French . no photos so far of the 14 foot Qaker, will get it together and do some photos, its stored at friends house. Dick

RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
So that is a 14 foor quaker! Thats huge. I have to wait till im done selling this place and relocating to get involved with a project like that.
Did it still fly like a creampuff when it was that big? Mine took forever to come down, Some guys wanted to ban it from the field because it had the thermaling ability of a sailplane. We we in the vicinity of jfk and couldnt fly gliders there. |

RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
Thanks. thats it. only 1 flight so far, it flew total nose up even with full down elevators. fortunitly all that wing area helped. have added variable spacers on TE, easier than shimming all 3 motors down. spring and good weather on the way soon. and pilot has calmed down. yell if you want more info. dick

Dug up this old crusty thread to post a couple pics of my Flying Quaker......
Maiden flight today with superb results as expected :D It will fly backward in a steady 15 mph breeze! Enjoy, Scott |

The b/w sepiatone really adds character to those photos. Beautiful planes. I love the Trexlers, wish they weren't $30 a pair. That also looks like a great flying field; I see one lone airplane magnet in that first pic. Do you belong to the Brainbusters club?
|
RE: Old Timer On The Tarmac......
congratulations. sure looks beautiful. whats the power?. getting ready to start on another 80" Playboy and then another Big Qaker -- will be my 4th one since the late 1930's (old Megow kit). had a 14 foter just about completed prior to Hurricane Katrina, understand most of it it still salvageable, have to build new tail feathers for it. keep the old timers flying. dick stamm

Dick,
Forgot to answer your question...the engine is a Saito .56. Just right for this plane. |
