A collective pitch helicopter the minimum channels is 5, add a gyro that requires remote gain and you are at 6, if you want an rpm governor then you need 7. Also the more channels the more features and mixing so the more the better but if you have no plans to fly nitro 6 is what you can get away with. If I were buying a new radio today I'd probably get the DX7

Tough call.

Blade CP Pro has been around for awhile and does have lots of support and lots of problems and lots of solutions. Axe CP is relatively new and is experiencing some growing pains. But I believe the Axe CP has some great growth potential.

The one thing about the forums is that there is usually always someone to help you out with a problem no matter which heli you acquire. There are also the nay-sayers who wll often basg you no matter what choice you make cause you did not follow their advice.

Do some more reading and then take the plunge.

One thing I found when you are just beginning is that often times you are not sure if it is your heli misbehaving or something you are doing wrong. And when you are just starting out you really do need a very stable heli to help you develop your skill set. Even theough the Falcon 3D is considered to be a mini size I wish I had bought it first and that would have saved me bunches of money in my learning process.

But we all are different and your mileage may vary and most likely will.
