That's some windshield washer hose I had cut into 4 small pieces. I put it on the skids because I got tired of the heli sliding across the floor from Tail Rotor Drift. I was surprised to find that those little rubber feet also absorbed some of the shock from hard landings and the heli no longer makes that "Clack" sound on rough landings. The added grip can increase chance of dynamic rollover, but I haven't had any problems thus far.

I didn't care for the OE antenna set-up so I replaced it with a Micro-Z antenna. You can see it better in the pic. Helihobby stocks it. If your interested [link=http://helihobby.com/html/extras.html]click here[/link].

Hear, hear. If you're going to skimp, then buy cheap paint for the canopy-- don't buy a cheap radio or a cheap charger. It stinks sometimes being on a budget, but better to get three batts and a good charger than six batts and a charger that breaks them all or burns your house down.

I say, YES, the AXE is a good first Heli. But I have 10 years of plane experience (also alot of sim time on the computer). I was getting bored of flying planes and needed a hobby that I could stick close to home and still fly. My closest flying is 30 miles one way, you know 45 minutes away. Now I just practice in my garge or out in my street, or at the local church parking lot and parks. I have had mine for a week and I love it. If you have never flown an RC airplane or run RC cars you should probably start with a Blade CX2 Heli. We have it much easier than the guys that learned to fly Heli's 10 years ago.

$200.00 for everything you need and the model is test flown at the factory and is ready for a flight out of the box. What could be more fun!!!!

Thanks for the battery tips Heliko, I didn't know some of what you talked about. Sometimes the LHS isn't so forthcomming with all the in's and out's of this hobby.

I did some weight checks and if I move the battery back under the main frame behind the motor the Heli balances just fine with a battery up front...so maybe 3 to 4 more OZ of weight? I can try it and see what it takes to get the Heli light and go from there. I am a little worried about the weight but it seems like so little. I will let you know how it goes.

For a first heli. I wouldn't wish a CP of any stripe on anyone. I'd recommend instead of the coax helis, though, that you try a Honeybee FP from ESky. It's very simple (much more so than the coax ones) and it is a similar flying experience to a single rotor like an Axe CP. The coax helis are a lot of fun in the house, but they don't prepare you for a higher powered heli.

Please don't start another sims vs coax helis discussion :).

....but I will say I don't care for FP helis.
They wobble and don't do well in any kind of wind.

I can try and explain what you missed if you'd like.
That's true, but don't forget the CG has 3 axis. Even if the left/right (pitch axis) and for/aft (roll axis) CG stay unchanged with two packs the CG will travel to a lower position on the vertcal axis. These pics are crude, but should help to explain what I mean. This isn't going to be a problem with hovering or some light flying, but if you try any kind of steep rolls or pitches or 3D flight you'll notice the helis resistance to your commands.

BTW my vertcal axis CG figures on the pic are by no means accurate. I'm just using the pic to illustrate my point.

I understand exactly what you are saying. And I agree. After talking to my friend that got me into this "madness" I agree that any more weight is BAD. While I am not going to do anything but try to hover, I don't want to develope any bad habits. So I am not going to position the battery any place but where the manufactuer has designed it to go. CG isn't an issue (with the battery where it was designed to be placed) but weight is.

I tried the AXE with my new battery tray tonight and it will work well. I still need to see if the canopy will fit though. I didn't think ahead in this change, but it looks like it will fit, I might have to do some dremel work though. I hope for a slight nose down attitude. Not much, but just less than even. Help me if this is wrong.

For thjose of you looking for cheap lipo and charger,hooobby.com has 1200mah lipo batteries for $20.00,and the esky charger for the same.I haven't had any problems and the batteries don't even get warm when charging.I get anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes of flight time with them.

Heliko thats a good idea about the rubber tubbing on the skids. I am going to try that because it also looks like it stops wear and tear on the skid mounts. I have already broke two of them from having the bottoms of the mounts wear dwn to far.


About the lipos that xxxntwv mentioned and the charger. Are the lipos quality and I have heard the other people useing the esky charger. Fourty dollars sounds like a deal, but I would rather spend double that and know I will have a house an hour later. so what is the reprt on these lipos.

Hi Heli enthusiasts:
While trying to trim my AXE CP in the basement I broke a main rotor grip. I tried unscrewing the screws going into the feathering shaft and they seem awfully tight; afraid I may damage the heads of the screws. Has anyone had to replace main rotor grips and what's the best way?

I had to replace the blade grips. the screws weren't tight but you have to hold the scerw on the other blade grip to.

I use an e-sky charger and have a 1000mah e-sky lipo that so far works great. I've had the setup for about a month and a half and no fires yet.:D

I just bought my axe cp on tues and it is awsome. I love flying. Wish it was brushlee though. and a little heaver so it wasnt effected by wind so much. Other than that it is great.Day three and i was hovering. i love it.

Rotor13b were could I find the charger and batteries. I whent to bphobbies but they are out. And it says it uses dc imput, how would i go about converting the ac to dc power.

I got mine off of ebay, It consisted of a e-sky charger, a 12volt wall plug-in and a 1000mah lipo battery. It also has alligator clips so you can take the charger to the field with you when your flying away from home. You can get the same setup minus the wall plug-in for $10 bucks cheaper if you don't want the 12volt ac plug. Cost me about 42 dollars with shipping and you can get extra batteries for like 17 bucks.

As for adapters, I went and bought a jst plug and a micro deans plug and soldered the two together. Works great and it also lets me use the stock batteries and the lipos without having to switch connectors on my batteries.

As for the quality of the lipo from hooobby.com I've had mine for a month charging and flying as many times in a day that I can and no problems yet.And the esky charger comes with a wall plug and aligator clips.The 1200mah battery also fits perfectly in the frame and balances good.

Just ordered the e-sky charger and battery off ebay. It comes with awall adaptor and it totaled $44 with shiping. Hope to get it by next week.

I had to remove the grips on mine also, the screws are loaded with locktite! I had to remove the head and have my wife hold it so it woldn't turn while I used two screw drivers to get it loose, it was a PITA! The heads held up but I was using good screw drivers.

I had a strange thing happen the other night. I was moving my AXE holding it by the head and the main motor tried to start spining. I droped the heli from about 3 feet and it survived without any damage. I checked my battery voltage and it was still holding at 11.4 volts (this was on a 11.1 volt Lipo). It also did the same thing to me today on the stock battery. I trird a hover and it performed ok. I was just wondering if this is a problem I should be worried about. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I had that happen to me once or twice too. For me though I think I had the radio too close to the heli. The other thing I thought of, but have no real evidence of is that by grabbing the heli by the rotorhead possibly causing the motor to turn may cause a little RF intererence. That's just a theory though because I've grabbed my heli by the head a few times and it rarely glitches.
