Advanced Orientations
How far have you advanced while learning to fly?
Post what you are working on. Skipping and bouncing, hovering, 45 degrees, side in, 135 degrees, nose-in, slow pirouettes, forward flight, figure eights, circles, flips, loops, inverted flight, inverted hovers, other? I have a hard time with figure eights, and then reverse figure eights. When the heli is turning nose-in out at the side, it can get lost in my head for a moment. Is it Side-in or nose in? Next, backwards flying circles and figure eights.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] |
RE: Advanced Orientations
GEEEZ!!! I'm not working on any of the above...
still working on hovering - nose out I do alright, nose in I suck!!! there's something I'm missing on that! |
RE: Advanced Orientations
hmmmm...
Tail in hovering Side in NOT smashing it into little bits The last one is my absolute fav :D |
RE: Advanced Orientations
I at side-in too. Not doing too bad.
I'm also trying nose-in, but the heli often gets ahead of me. I think I've been too busy modifying it to fly it. :) |
RE: Advanced Orientations
figure 8's and nose in hovering.

RE: Advanced Orientations
I've got side in hovering down pretty good now.
Been just hovering around the yard, going high, coming back down, a little left side, a little right side. Started practicing some nose in hovering yesterday and learned a valuable lesson, don't go nose in too far away from you until you have it down when the heli's close. I stacked it twice yesterday; fought it for a good 10 seconds before it looked like it was gonna hit either the fence, or a large pine tree. Lots of Wooooh!, woh!, woooh!, that's when I gave up and shut er down. I managed to get away with just one broken blade grip from that one. The second one was not nearly as excitining, lol. I only popped off the training gear. Now I've got a very slight vibration, not enough to effect flight, but you can see it in the training gear/antenna. It bugs me just enough to have to fix it. I think it's gonna be blade tracking due to the replacement of the blade grip. Welp, time to go do some fly'n.:D |
RE: Advanced Orientations
Thats what I would call DAIPER FLYING. The kind of flight experience that would be a bit more comfortable while wearing a daiper in case you #$@% yourself.

RE: Advanced Orientations
Just 4 or 5 good flights in hovering last nite without crashing. I was so proud of myself. Did a few side in's too but not by choice. And one hand catch save when it flew backwards up and over my head. Called it quits for the nite after that.

RE: Advanced Orientations
I've got 'Dynamic Rollover' down pretty good.
Landing the heli on it's side seems to be a natural, for me. Windmilling is working well, Hovering in an area of less than 20 feet in diameter is still somewhat of a challenge, Forward flight? Controlled? They are supposed to do that? I think I just need a more stable bird, something along the lines of, say, 16 or 17,000 pounds GVW maybe........ |

You would think that of all the things in a backyard the one thing you should be able to miss is a house. Well guess who hit one? Yup... ME!! No major damage to the house though. [sm=punching.gif] |
RE: Advanced Orientations
So far for me:
Tail-in, nose-in and side-in hover (having a harder time with right side than left side for some reason). When I'm feeling brave, I'll do a very slow FF :). |
