Need some info?
 

Hi all! I bought a heli-max axe ez and everything is ok, except it just shuts off after 10 mins or so! I figured it was a posibility that the 4 in 1 was getting too hot, but I plugged in a receiver pack and the light comes on right away. Is there a voltage regulator built in that will only let the lipo discharge so much??? I'm worried that I will be 25ft high and the thing will fall out of the sky. Please let me know what the deal is. Thanx

I don't have an EZ, but I know a little about Li-Po's. It is most likely the low volt cut-off. Unlike other types of batteries running Li-Po's too low will ruin them.

You do have a couple of options to deal with this.

One option is a low volt alarm set higher than the ESC's cut-off.

Another simpler and cheaper option is to use a timer.

Thank you for your reply! I was thinking it was the low voltage cutoff. Anyone else that runs and axe ez, does yours do this as well?? Mine doesn't even give any warning signs, just shuts off. I have no li-po experience, but shouldn't the voltage drop be noticeable like in other batteries? Thanx again

Li-Po's don't really work that way so you can't always sense the voltage drop.

In my case there's only about a two volt difference between a fully charged pack and an empty one. It starts at 12.6 volts and ends at 9.8-10.3 volts.

Now I use the timer in my 7CHP instead of trying to hear, sense, or wait till the motor cuts out.

I do have one advantage in LV cut-off though. I'm using a programmable ESC set to soft-cut so it cuts power gradually letting the heli settle to the ground instead of the hard-cut which it sounds like the EZ comes with.

Heliko thanx alot for your advice! I just went and ran another pack through, and this time I did notice a very small drop in power/lift and it died about 25 seconds after that. So looks like I will have to be on my toes!! What goes up must come down!! LOL

I also have to laugh cause I was flying around the living room and flew right threw a big plant and made salad instantly.......Who knew these things could chop so well. LOL

Ironically that's been done with real helis as well. I've heard that during the Vietnam War the pilots used the main blades on the UH-1's to mow down bamboo chutes. That's one hell of a weedwacker!

Mikey-- careful, man. I sliced up some bushes with my 450 a couple months ago, and mistakenly mentioned it on RCU. To my chagrin, people are still giving me grief about using my heli for gardening!

I too have done my version of the weedwacker on some vines in the backyard. I don't know why someone would knock it anyway these heli's are suprisingly efficient at that particular task. :D[8D]

:D yes-- I have MAH carbon 315s on my 450 and they chop through bushes like they weren't even there. Crazy the power these things put out.

Yeah, and crazy how soft a jugular or eyeball is. That's the only part about heli's that scare me.

OMG, yes. I readily admit it-- playing with the 300 class helis I never gave it a thought, but seeing what the 450 could do radically changed how I handle and fly them. You can read the energy numbers, but it really brings it home when you see the blades slice-- not break, but *slice* --1/4" of wood and incur no, zero, nada damage.
