HELP! sticks are reversed...
I can't figure this one out.. first off the facts...
I'm using a futaba 6exh transmitter, I'm trying to make an Axe CP fly. This is where everythign goes bad for me... I've got the same frequency in the Axe as on the transmitter. Now, we're using the stock reciever for the heli, I've got the motor unplugged and as soon as I get through the transmitter/reciever problem I'll go on. When I started the swap, I looked at the movement in servos and swash from the stock setup and wrote everything down. I set up the transmitter (a guess anyhow) and everything seems to work, here is the exception: the right stick is supposed to control forward/aft cyclic and the left should control the speed (along with moving the swash down on the main shaft), my problem is these two sticks are reversed! Everything moves fine, as it should, except, the sticks are reveresed. do I need to go with a futaba reciever? is it something in the transmitter programming? Am I losing my mind???? thanks guys! |
RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
flip the switch on the tx for the servo. if it's in normal then switch it to reverse. and vice versa

RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
ORIGINAL: Revo_Rash flip the switch on the tx for the servo. if it's in normal then switch it to reverse. and vice versa no, it's not reverse movement, the sticks are reversed from what they are supposed to be controlling.. for example.. push forward on the throttle, it's moving my swashplate like it would to give forward cyclic... push forward on the cyclic and it moves the swash up and down like the servo's move it when you give it throttle.. |
RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Is the Axe CP an eCCPM heli, or is it mCCPM? If M, you should be able to swap the throttle lead with the elev. lead. - If not I dunno, that would take some thought and I'm not really wanting to think right now.

RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Yeah... sounds like your in the wrong "MODE"
Radios have two MODES, in each mode the sticks are reversed. Its those crazy pilots on the european continent (especially the French) who fly in the mode that has the throttle on the right stick. Then again don't european helis spin their rotors in the opposite direction too??? [:-] Just switch your Radios mode. |
RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
ok, I can switch the stick modes (it's in 2)...
but if I make changes to this, won't it make changes to all the models? |
RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Damn - sounds almost like you have the wrong mode transmitter - where'd you get the TX? Is it mode 1 or mode 2?

RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Wow - when replies rush in - you can't veen keep up with the postings!

RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
You need to put teh swash mode to 3S if it is not already. I think the default on my 6EXH was 1S, the Axe is 3S.
Secondly, disconnect all the servos and start over. Pitch and throttle are mixed still have their respective channels 3 and 6. On the front panel of the 6EXH is the list of channels. It's a simple fix, you just have the channels mixed up. Swap the connectors for channels 2 and 6. |

RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Ok well then it is not the TX, stay in mode 2. I was pretty sure mode 2 was the correct one.
So now back to swaping servos on the Rx. It's just a matter of changing one or two connectors to get it right. |

RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Ok THESTRATCAT,
Here's what I think happened. You are set up on the MX 400 as its a mechanical set up. When you tried to set up your AXE, you had to program a new model number and then set up your swashplate to s-3. When you started programming this new model number, I'm guessing the MODE (or STICK # as the manual says) may have gone back to #1 by default. So, when you select model #1 (MX400) everything works, but when you select model #2 it has the stick backwards 'cause its still in mode 1. copy-paste from manual: Changing the 6EXHP stick mode The transmitter may be operated in four different stick “modes” (1, 2, 3 & 4). The modes determine the functions that will be operated by control sticks. Currently, the transmitter is in “mode 2” and should be left in mode 2 unless you are an experienced flyer and have learned to fly in a different mode. In mode 2, the right control stick operates the aileron and elevator and the left stick operates the rudder and throttle. This is how 99% of Americans fly their models. To change the mode, simultaneously depress the MODE and SELECT keys, then turn on the power. The current mode will appear on the LCD screen. Push the DATA INPUT lever up or down to change the mode. If a mode is selected that moves the throttle control to the right stick, the throttle detent mechanism will have to be moved as well. This can be done by the Futaba Service Center. (See page 2) |
RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
I'm going to go ahead and change that model over to Mode 1 just for the fun of it..
I decided tonight, I'll further troubleshoot.. if the mode change don't help, I'll pull the crystal out of the MX and put it in the CP, if that doens't help, I may move the whole reciever over to find out. |
RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Strat, Mode 1 puts the throttle on the right stick and Mode 2 puts the throttle on the left stick. Mode 2 is what we use here in the US. If your Tx is set to mode 2 then that's not your problem.
Can you post your servo mapping. I have a feeling that's where the confusion lies. Also it's unlikely it's the crystal. Usually either they work or they don't with no inbetween. |

I used the servo map that you gave me yesterday man... actually it worked until I started the transmitter change, everything was just fine, but since I've introduced the Futaba and the new frequency (still a CP crystal though) I've got the reversed sticks. I'm almost thinkiing it's programming, but I'm not smart enough to figure it out. |
RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Took this from another thread, this should help a lot. It's a 7CHP, but the channel locations will be the same.
Here is the basic setup I am using right now. Setup for the Helimax Axe CP CCPM servo channel mapping: CH1: Right rear CCPM servo CH2: Front CCPM servo CH6: Left rear CCPM servo Servo Reversing: CH1 = Aileron Normal CH2 = Elevator Reverse CH3 = Throttle Reverse CH4 = Rudder Normal CH5 = Gyro Normal CH6 = Pitch Reverse Swash AFR: AIL-> +65% ELE-> -65% PIT-> -37% Throttle curves: Normal: 0.0%, 36.0%, 72.0%, 83.5%, 100% Idle1: 100.0%, 83.5%, 72.0%, 83.5%, 100% Idle2: 100.0%, 83.5%, 72.0%, 83.5%, 100% Pitch curves: Normal: 40.0%, 45.0%, 50.0%, 72.5%, 100.0% Idle1: 0.0%, 27.5%, 50.0%, 72.5%, 100.0% Idle2: 0.0%, 27.5%, 50.0%, 72.5%, 100.0% PROG - MIX1: ELEV->THRO (Ch2 -> Ch3) Down -20%, Up +20% PROG - MIX2: AILE->THRO (Ch1 -> Ch3) Left +20%, Up -20% Why mix throttle and aileron/elevator? Cyclic movements take additional throttle to keep head-speed up, this is something I learned a while back from suggestions for the Hornet from Eric Larsen's home page. Easiest way to test for yourself is to hover and just run the helicopter through some quick rocking motions, you'll be able to hear the head-speed drop. The two mixes add throttle during cyclic simply to keep the maneuverability up, the stock radio doesn't do this, and it's why you hear so many people complain about a stock Axe losing head-speed in their first loops. |

RE: HELP! sticks are reversed...
Strat if your sure channel 3 is going to the ESC and 2 is going to the front servo then your OK. However if not then try switching the channels and see what happens. It won't hurt anything just be sure the blades are at least removed so there are no accidental blade strikes.
As for the Rx it should be compatable with your Tx. The Axe's Rx is simply a 6 channel, negative pulse, single conversion, FM receiver. Chances are it's actually a Futaba made Rx anyway. Not to mention it works perfect with my 7CHP. There's usually no half way with Tx/Rx compatability. Either they work or they don't. And when they don't there is no function at all. I could be wrong, but I think the problem has to lie in swapped servo connections or programming issues. |
