Is this a good radio? What are the pros and cons? There's one on EBay for $100 right now with the synthesized TX.

I love mine. I went though 3 radios before I got it and I really think it will be the last radio I own. I think its one of the best Futaba Radios you can get without spending over $1,000. I know that it will do everything that I will ever need. To me it is very esay to program, but I am pretty good at menu driven things anyway. I really dont have anything bad to say about it. $100 is a killer deal with the synthesized module.

Man, if you have a chance to buy a 9C (A or H, either one) and it's in good shape, for $100, then DO IT, especially if you don't have a computer radio for your helis yet. The 9C is (IMHO) the best mid-tier transmitter, and the synth module eliminates a lot of headaches. It is a FM or PCM system (software selectable), and if Futaba ever ships the darn things, you will be able to get the TM-8 module to put in it for 2.4 GHz FASST, so unlike the Spektrum gear, you can use the same TX for any existing (or purchased) FM or PCM aircraft you get, and for the FASST gear when you're ready to upgrade.

I already have one, and I'd buy it :D.

Thanx for the inputs - I read about a dozen reviews on RCU for it and most all raved about it!

Bought one when they first came out and loved it. Sold it when the Super came out and haven't looked back. Its a very versitle radio and will do what 90 percent of hobbiests need.

So, the 9CHPS is a better radio??

Its got more model memory and some software upgrades. I wouldn't consider getting a non super version.

MMatheny-- I have to apologize and admit a mistake here; I didn't realize that there were non-S radios around any more, but now that BH pointed it out I'm clued up. I have the 9CAP/S (which I use for my helis, nonetheless; the only diff is the switches), and my comments were to the S. BarracudaHockey, am I reading right, that the 9CHP doesn't have adjustable pitch/throttle curves? If that's correct, I wouldn't get it either.

Ahh, I didnt think about that either I also have the "S". I wonder though if its really only a software difference if you could send it to Futaba to be upgraded but thats another thread :)

Oh yes, at least 5 point, maybe 7. Also normal/idle1/idle2 can have separate curves, also extra fine tune hover pitch and hover throttle on nobs. Great radio. I have the 7chp, limited compared to the 9chp, but still a great radio.

All versions of the 9c have 5 point throttle curves. After re-reading my posts I'm not sure where that assumption came from.

Each flight mode is treated independently, you can have Normal, Idle1, Idle2, Idle3 and throtte hold. You can set up your dual rates and expo so that they are tied to the flight mode switch as well as gyro gain and even trims so that each idle up becomes its own flight condition much like the 9z

One example of a difference is the 9C will let you set up a mix that adds throttle as you add either elevator or aileron cyclic. It takes 2 P-mixes to achieve this and if you are already at high throttle it will still attempt to add the mix either stressing your throttle servo or popping the link off the throttle arm (a bad thing)

The super has a menu choice for Swash - Thr mix, you simply turn it on and set a percentage, no over driving the linkages or wasting two of your three available mixes.
The super also adds a gyro screen to the airplane software, and lets the glider guys have true flight conditions for trim and mixing which the 9c wont do and as I said the super has more onboard model memory.

Ahhhh, ok. No, the question of the curves didn't come from you. I went and used to comparison screen in the f/s section to compare the two, and the S feature list notes the curve settings while the non-S doesn't. I guess it's just incomplete. Thanks, BH-- it sounds like the non-S has most (or all) of the stuff that I use for the helis so perhaps it's not such a bad after all.

The curves are 5-point, btw.
