AXE CP help
 

Well I did it, I finally bought an AXE CP helicopter, let the spare parts suppliers rejoice!!
After several orders to tower hobbies for parts, I have a couple of questions. First, trying to hover the heli it wants to drift forward, back, left right without any inputs from the TX. I have tried to trim it out, but I still cant get a stable hover and being an uncoordinated newbie, I of course over correct.
2nd, does anyone know of a sim that will connect to the helimax TX? I know I need a sim and Im getting tired of crashing.

Do yuo have any simulator time on this or have you flown them before? Well I "had" mine for a couple weeks It's a squirly little thing. Are you running a Lipo or the other?

If you are trying to hover at below 3 feet, the down-wash from the blades will defect off the floor, and cause the AXE to get very squirrily and seem un-controllable. Having the training-gear can also cause the heli to get the "wiggles-while-hovering."
As far as a "sim" I wouldn't know, don't have one, don't want one, I prefer the "REAL" flying/crashing experience!

I havent tried a sim yet, this is my first heli and I figured I would give it a shot first and see what happens. Well the words of an old friend of mine came back"Flying an rc heli is like keeping a marble centered on a pane of glass". Im using the stock battery, but I did put a pair of trainer blades on and they seem to quiet it down a little. I have seen other threads where people have moved thier servo rods in on the arms to limit pitch travel, we will see how that goes. Yea I agree with you Shadow99 on the REAL experience, but man that shipping is starting to add up. My last order I just bought a couple of everything I think I might break, just to be sure!!

Your better off keeping your servo linkages where they are, just add 1/16" I.D. wheel collars to the flybar (1 each side), unscrew the flybar paddles, position the wheel collars just inside of the flybar paddles. Make sure the lengths of the flybar paddles are equal from the stabilizer hub out to each side, (a strip of shirt-cardboard & a pencil works good, butt one end of cardboard strip against stabilzer Hub, mark other end at inside of paddle, compare to other side, adjust paddles, & re-check distances), be sure to tighten the set-screw on the wheel collar & use locktite.
With the additional weight of the wheel collars on either side of the flybar, and all the way out towards the paddles, cyclic control will be dulled. As your skills progress, you can move the wheel collars in closer to the stabiziler hub, cyclic control will become more responsive. When your ready, or you've moved the collars all the way inside, remove them.

I did a little reading on moving the servo arms and im thinking it might have gotten me in more trouble, so I got a pair of wheel collars to try out. I broke my first blade grip, so shes down for parts. I was able to find a tx to pc cable for my TX, and downloaded the FMS sim to get some practice in before I try again.

sthrash, what TX do you have? If it is Fubata square plug, what sim cable did you get?

MMatheny, its a Helimax 5 channel that came with the heli. The plug is the same as futaba square from what I have been told. I ordered the cable from amazon, PC USB Interface Cable by GWS - GWFSM002C for $14.95. I found a cheaper one for $10.95, but the website seemed a little flacky, so I decided to be safe and spend a couple extra $$ with a site im familiar with.

Did you get the cable yet? I got one of those and I don't like the way it maps channels (at least with my 7CH - I can't get the darn plug forced into the jack on my HeliMax TX - grrr!). I have a HiTec one that has a 5 pin DIN connector for my T6XA I like a lot more. I paid $10 + $5 shipping for mine - I'm going to cut the square connector off and make a pigtail for my HiTec simulator cable out of it!

No i havent gotten the cable yet, should be here in a day or so. Once I get it ill try it out and let you know how it goes.

I got the cable and downloaded FMS, but theres a problem. My TX wouldnt calibrate correctly for all channels, and after a little research I found out that the mixing for cyclic is built into the TX and FMS doesnt have a feature to correct for that. I have seen a couple of posts for a program that will convert the mixing signal, but after FMS crashed my computer 3 times, I think Ill just spend the $$ for G3.5. Other than that, I replaced the broken blade grip and noticed that my flybar paddles were upside down. I thought maybe it was just me looking at it wrong, but after checking with the manual and comparing pics, they were definatley wrong. Guess that explains the reason it would go crazy when I lifted off, cant believe I didnt notice it before, but this is the first heli, so Ill chalk it up to simple lack of knowledge. I put the wheel collars on the flybar also, so after the batts charge Ill see what happens.

Ok, all parts are installed, flybar paddles and blades adjusted to pitch, batteries charged all ready to go. Checked all functions to make sure good to go, except main motor, why check that, I know it works!! Plug battery in, wait for gyro to center, back up behind heli and hit the throttle to about 1/4 as normal...................nothing happens!! Well *@!&. Throttle down to see whats wrong and as soon as throttle hits "Idle off" heli jumps into the air about 15 to 20 feet before I can react and try to get it under control. Well needless to say, I wasnt quick enough, by the time I went to level her out, she turned on her left and nose dived into the pavement, no couldnt hit the softer grass, had to be pavement. It was one of those occasions where all you could do was stare for a second at what just happened. Made my way over to the heli, unplugged the battery and surveyed the damage. Bent tail boom, both blade grips broken, broken center hub, traing gear thrown in two different directions, left landing skid screws pulled out and lost the battery hold in rubber band (ha ha). Actually not too bad for how she landed. One thing for sure though, when it decided to take off, it took off!!!!! What happened I wonder??? Oh yea thats right, when trying to get FMS to work, I reversed the servos on the TX. That my friends was one of those lessons that you are taught and taught but sometimes the excitment of the moment makes you forget, ever happen to you, well it happened to me. So luckily I had all the spare parts handy, lets see what happens when the TX is setup right.
