Im having problems hovering in one spot even on the flight simulator with the axe cp. Is it even possible to hold it in one spot?im using the g-3.5(i love it by the way) , but i cant seam to hold it steady.do i just need more practice? Joe

Keep at it Joe. I've had my Axe for about 5 months (although I haven't taken it outdoors for about a month - too cold or too windy [:o]) and I haven't mastered a hover yet. However, I have hovered it in the G3.5 sim, but it isn't easy, and I haven't been able to hold the hover steady for very long. It does indeed take practice. I am able to do much better with some of the other helis in G3.5, and I can actually fly around with some. I recently purchased a new T-Rex heli that I have heard are much more stable than the Axe, but they are also much more advanced and better built. I can fly the T-Rex pretty good in G3.5 too, but I still crash it plenty if I try anything too advanced. But even those mishaps will help me learn to fly the real thing. The Axe is a great starter, and it's a rugged little heli, but it is kinda squirrely. Good luck and have fun.

Yeah...he's right. That's pretty much how the real ones hover.

You are constantly moving the right stick trying to keep ahead
of the heli and trying to anticipate it's next move...

It's great training...creates 'muscle memory' and hand/eye
coordination....

I can't hover stable either...it's just the nature of this size heli....there is no HH gyro, the tail is a seperate motor, and when the battery goes down, so does tail authority. They are also so light, that the wind generated by the rotor (rotor wash) makes things very unstable.

I don't worry too much about a perfectly stable hover.

i dont actually have much problem flying it around.although i do still get squrrely when its coming at me. im trying to get good enough at the simulator so i can go out and buy my next step helicopter with confidence. i also dont understand what is meant by a nose in hover etc.... one of you guys were talking about having a trex on the 3.5 sim. is that in one of the expansion packs?thanks all to the help youve offered me.it is greatly appreciated. joe

Joe,

When you start learning to fly a heli, it's best to start with the nose of the heli facing away from you since the heli's responses will match the direction you move the sticks. That is know as tail-in flight or tail-in hovering. Once you get that down, you can start learning nose-in flight, where the heli is actually facing you. That is much more tricky, since now the heli is 180 degrees from tail-in orientation. The result is that you will need to reverse your thinking when making directional adjustments. Right pitch will actually move the heli to your left, etc.

You guys are a great help. I am putting the cash together for my next helicopter as we speak. Im still battling with myself on which one to get. I like the Honey bees, axe cp but i also like the mx-450 helimax and of course the t-rex. i am probably going to go with the honey-bee belt cp or the king 2. i believe the belt cp comes with a brushless motor. My local hobby shop doesnt carry parts for it(the only draw back i can see)but maybe if i work with the simulator enough, i wont crash....yea right. thanks again guys. if you ever need any machine work done let me know. im cheap and easy. haha Joe

Take a look at the HDX450 at HeliMax.com - it's 95% T-Rex clone, and almost all LHS carry T-Rex parts. It's all CNC. If you decide to go with it, drop Michael at USHobbySupply.com a note - he can give you a deal.
