Default Loose tail rotor housing on tail boom.

Hello everyone,

I ran into the same issue again with the tail rotor housing coming loose on the tail boom. I had this issue before, which was mainly caused by an out of balance condition. That problem was solved with a number of new components and a complete new tail housing. Yesterday I noted a small amout of play where I can actually twist the tail housing back and forth feeling the play of the pin within the booms alignment slot. Now there are a number of ways I could proceed here. Since the screws are tight, I was thinking about using a strip of vinyl tape to increase the clamping resistance or I suppose one could remove the housing and surface the clamp up faces to allow for a tighter grip on the boom.

How has the rest of the Shuttle world solved this annoying issue?

Mine has the same issue. I have been flying it like that for a while with no issues. If anyone has a solution I would like to hear it.

Do as you thought, wrap the boom with a piece of vinyl tape. Tail case will clamp easier. One wrap should do it. Black electrial tape or even just scotch tape will do the trick.

We used to use shrink wrap on our booms years ago.

I tried a single wrap of black vinyl electrical tape around the tailboom and the tail rotor housing seems to have snugged up perfectly. Just loosened up the fasteners, ran the tail servo full travel aft, slipped the belt off the pulley onto the rotor shaft so everything slid back out of the way and applied the tape. Reverse order for assembly and your done.
